We have just started using our Mantis Tiller. It fits so nicely in our 12X7 grow boxes. It is easy and light to move around. It really tears up the dirt and chews it nicley. It can be adjusted to get in to the narrow spots and not take out our plants. It is an Awesome unit.
I purchased my mantis several years ago. My reason was because the bigger tillers were so hard to handle and move around. I like that it is so lightweight and can be carried from place to place without straining your back. I also like that it will work on any soil. I live where it is mostly clay and extreamly hard to till, but the mantis does a great job. I have even used it to loosen driveway gravel that was impossible to get a shovel to penetrate!
Is super, easy to handle one handed operation. Pretty simple to assemble and even came with a quart of oil.
I bought this unit from Sears. This is not the deluxe model, it does not have akick start feature. To say this is a cold blooded machine is an understatement. Since the day I bought it I have had trouble getting it started. I have many 2 cycle machines and none have this problem. It is less than a year old. I have cleared the gas tank, checked the carburetor, changed the spark plug. It just doesn't want to start if cold! Once running is seems o.k. until you get to the end of the row, and as soon as you release the gas, it dies. A small engine shop just shrugged it off as characteristic...
