Lockedgarage door opener safety sensor doesn't work - lights always *on*

posted on October 28, 2009 at 09:15AM Inappropriate?

I have 2 of the 139.53647srt1 garage door openers in the home I just bought. One of them fails to reverse when the beam is broken, but it appears that the opener doesn't even know that the beam is broken because the green light on the receiver never goes out, even if I put my hand directly on it. The garage door is fully functional apart from this.

Is there a particular part I can replace to fix this or anything I can do to further diagnose this?

Bump. The garage door works fine except breaking the beam doesn't cause the door to go back up. Hoping there's a part I can replace or whatnot. I'm capable of diagnosing/repairing electronics but not knowing anything about garage door openers it would probably take me more time to figure it out than it's worth (and there's no guarantee that it could even be repaired) unless I could get a little direction on where to start or what to look for.

Is this a Craftsman garage door opener, theshanman?  If so, there is a designated phone number just for garage door issues.  Here you go:

Hope they can help!

Garage door keeps reversing when trying to put it down.  Nothing in its way.  What the problem?  Model  139.53990SRT.

Recent storm popped breaker that powers garage door opener.  I reset breaker and door opened.  However, door will not function now.  Sensor light is off.  Manual says senor cannot be disabled, but sensor apparently not working.  I am wondering if senor was "fried" when storm came through?  I have checked wiring and sensor to sensor path.  Nothing!  Lights flash when I try to activate just like manual says.  Do I need to replace sensors?  Can't find part for my opener - Part number 41A4373A.

have you tried resetting the remotes, on ur garage door opener unit, there should be a button, in the newer models it's called a "learn botton", you should press that botton, when pressing the bottom it should light up for like 30 seconds, in that 30 seconds press the top buttons on each of your remotes (at the same time). the opener light should blink letting you know they r connected now. Hope this helps!
