Hi jossyplana, sounds like you've got a lot of things planned!

Have you thought about painting your cabinets and/or changing the handles? Depending on how much time you have or how thorough a job you want to do, you could take the hinges off the cabinets and paint the frame and the complete door (front and back). You'll need to prep everything you paint before you actually paint it. You should talk to someone in the paint department who can show you which paint, primer, brushes, etc. you should use.

Sometimes just painting the cabinets makes a big change in the kitchen. But if you need to change your counter-tops, there are so many different kinds of materials out there. To get a good estimate of the cost, you need to measure how much space will need to be replaced. The materials are usually priced at a per linear foot cost.

Guess what else you'll want to change when you start this project? Your sink and faucet and appliances! But maybe it's unnecessary?

As for appliances, Sears.com has some great sales and more innovative products than ever before. Make sure to stop into a local Sears store to see what's available for your space. Or you can check out appliances online at Sears online.

Replacing a bathtub is a big project. I'm not sure how much more expensive it is to replace the tub vs. using a shower and tub liner system.

Hope this helps!

Looks like you have lots of great plans for your home!

Bathtubs generally vary in price.  You can find a basic tub for as little as $100.  A whirlpool tub can cost upwards of $1000.  You will also need to consider the cost of labor to replace the tub.  However, if your existing tub is cast iron you may want to consider getting it refinished.  It will be less costly than a replacement and will save you the inconvenience of having the bathroom torn apart (removing a cast iron tub is a big job).

Changing out the hardware on your cabinets is an easy and inexpensive way to make an update to the bathroom cabinets.  If the wood or stain is dated you should also consider painting them.  Here is a great article on painting cabinets:  http://tinyurl.com/arf7xh

You can make similar changes in the kitchen.  For a completely new look without the expense of a kitchen renovation you can paint the cabinets.  Then replace the cabinet hardware, faucet and lighting fixtures.  Some popular finishes are brushed nickel, copper, and antique bronze.  Choose a color that contrasts the cabinets.

Best of luck with all your projects!

In the last 3 years I have changed both tubs in the house. I boughht both at Lowes. The Jacuzzi tub is $699 and the Sterling 20 inch soaking tub $325. Don't know how much it would cost to have them installed, did it myself.
