Locked13 year olds and toys

My little baby brother's birthday was this past weekend (well...not so baby anymore since he turned 13). For the life of me, I could not remember things that I was interested in at that age. I think I liked playing super nintendo and painting my nails. What kind of toys did YOU enjoy when you were 13? What are popular 13-year-old-boy toys now?

When I was thirteen...I loved being outside! So I loved any toy that could maximize my outdoor fun. We are talking soccer balls, bikes, bubbles, baseball gloves, frisbees, pools etc. Buy him a pool! Wouldn't you be the coolest sister ever?

And for popular 13-year-old-boy toys...as a Sears associate, I would recommend shopping Sears.com and going to our Toy pages. We break toys down into appropriate age groups. Hope this helps!

I'd have to agree with Jessica on this one. With Spring quickly approaching in Chicago (fingers crossed), something to help him enjoy the warm weather would be great. After being trapped indoors for the winter as a kid, I couldn't wait to get out and play sports with my friends. If he's an indoor type of guy, which I was on rainy days, a Wii might be fun! It'll keep him active! Much more so than the stationary games we played at his age.

At 13 perhaps, with his parents permission, you could get him a single shot 22 or a single shot shotgun if you think he would be interested and there is someone who could show him the proper use and how to safely handle the firearm. One could always also get him a new rod and reel.

I still have my 22 from my youth and shot them, My dad has since passed but I still remember the lessons and values he taught me.

also if you were wondering about the new toy shops - they seem to be aimed at toddlers to 5 years old. lots of sesame street, carpeted floors. It was not the toy shop I had imagined, where a big kid like me could still get his kicks (ie, big super lego section or a robotoy thing would rock.) so good luck finding a gift for the birthday present - might I recommend some stuff?

as a 13 year old I read wired magazine b/c it was right up my alley with technology and games and articles about important new things. I cherished it all through till today. The subscription is 10 dollars and for a full year. Sounds kinda lame but just wait till the 4th month rolls on and they are just waiting for the latest issue.

if he is into music in the slightest, a nice mid range pair of headphones will get them into it more.

Personally I would not buy clothing for boys, but a mall gift card works better.

I always wanted a BB gun, but my Mom would say "You'll put your eye out with that!"

At that age I loved building and flying model airplanes, model rockets, building model cars, that sort of thing. One of the best presents I got back then was a Dremel Moto-tool which I still use to this day.

I would imagine that most boys at that age would enjoy video games of some kind!

I just came back from the grand opening of the sears toy shop and think its time to sell my shares in the company.
