I have a 16.5 HP 42" lawn tractor Bought 2000. I can not stop -no brakes. I adjusted the jam nut to what is required in the manual, but still doesnt stop. I have several questions. !). Is there a brake pad that needs to replace?. 2). If there is a pad is it hard to replace ?.3). Is there another problem ? 4). if there is another problem ,is it easy to fix.?

I bought a new YTS 4000 in the spring, can't wait to sell it next year, it is slower thean my last 3 sears tractors even though it has a much larger motor, it is top heavy and get poor traction. Overall bad tractor, I have nothing good to say about it

Has anyone seen my post?

I could have sworn I replied to this one.

It's probably around the site, "somewhere".

And, THAT'S a good reason to have a front BUMPER!

I don't even know where the brakes ARE on my tractor.

You got the long-model number, from underneath the tractor's seat?

yes, sir there are brake pads, also known as pucks on craftsman tractors. i think the part # is 799021, maybe. they are on the transaxle and are no more difficult to replace than the ones on a car. if the adjustment of the jam nut didnt work, your pucks are probably worn out. When you look at the pads for wear, you will also want to check the plate behind them and the disc the pads press against when the pedal is depressed for wear as well. If you go to parts direct on sears website and put your model number in and go to the transaxle assembly you will see them on the diagram and list of parts.
