Lockedupdated review after ownign samsung 448 set for a couple months

OK so while i like this set I have a few issues that are very troublesome ,

1. The liquid soap runs right into the laundry doesnt wait to be released. Samsungs answer to this was that I should use powder and that it really didnt go right in on the clothing it goes into water. NO it doesnt you can watch it run down the inside of the door. This flaw makes the prewash cycle useless because it takes all the soap and there is none left for the main wash.

2. I have had many times a small amount of water drips out down the front from the bottom of the door, Sears says this is if you have ANY hair or and small piece of lint it will act like a syphin so I have to wipe it out after each load.

3. You can start another load right away without powering off then back on this is also the way the dryer works. A pain.

4. I cant choose extra hot on my whites cycle you have to go and use sanitize and add steam and silvercare to that giving you and almost 2 hour wash cycle.  I think it was 1hour 54 minutes this morning when I used sanitize and I didnt even use silvercare.

5.many cycles seem to be the same just named different things.

6.Dryer is nice but rolls blankets etc into tight ball and turns off saying its dry I have to unroll and set it to timed dry today I have to reset it and unroll one blanket 3 times. One thing I have noticed is there is very littel lint on the actual lint trap but TONS outside where my vent blows outside. Not sure what that means.

one person at samsung admitted the soap problem is a flaw they were working on but that doesnt help me now that I have spent 3000........

I debated between this and electrolux and went with samsung because it has awesome reviews but these issues do bother me. I specificalyy asked at teh sears store about the soap issue because I had read about it and I was assured that no that was incorrect adn the machine would dispense the soap at the proper time. I dont know if sears would let me switch at this point or if I even want to but I am frustrated.

You're still within 90 days, so you can switch, though you may be out the 15% restocking fee. If you move to the Electrolux, be sure to take advantage of the sizeable rebate they're running.

I am also extremely torn about the same issues.  I went to sears this evening to talk with my sales guy.  We are having a handyman come and look at my Samsung washer in the morning.  I am hoping that he can find something wrong and that it just isn't how this washer is.  There are plenty of things that I love about this washer but I am afraid that the flaws may out weigh the good.  My thoughts are though......what if all front loaders are like this?  I am thinking about going back to a top loader.  They say that the front loaders are easier on your clothes but my kids cannot even have a chance to wear them out if they have stains on them.  I have all of the same concerns and more.  I hate that the pre wash dispenses oxi-clean on your clothes and then drains before the main wash starts.  Why wouldn't it keep the oxi clean in there for the entire wash.  It also adds the detergent in the pre-wash and then drains.  If you choose the pre-wash button then you don't have any soap left when it is time to do your reg cycle. DUMB!!!!! I also hate that you cannot soak items.   I even tried to soak a shirt in a bucket with oxi and tide and then I poured it into the washer.  When the cycle started, it completely drained and then I had wasted all of that soap.  I have spent more money on oxi, Tide, spray and wash, clorox 2 and at least 5 other detergent trying to get stains out.  I decided to try an experiment.... I took out 2 shirts yesterday, which were still wet and still had a stain on both.(What a surprise)   I placed one shirt back in my Samsung and I took one over to my mothers house who has a washer with an agitator to see if I was crazy or if the stain was really set.  I repeated the process again shout, tide clorox2 and the new tide stain release.  Sure enough....the agitator washer took the stain out and my Samsung didn't.  What the heck?  This is frustrating.  Isn't there anybody else who doesn't  like this washer?  There are a million awesome reviews.  By the way I have read the entire manual twice and have been using the washer for over 2 months so I have tried all of the cycles.  I was under the impression that the steam feature was suppose to help get the stains out.  I think that it is just a gimmick.  I do have to admit that the dryer is the greatest machine ever.  It is amazing and I will definitely NOT be returning it.

Thank you ! I thought I was the lone person with issues.

All the reviews are grewat so I dont know if samsung paid people to post of what.

I do like them but the design flaws are huge. How can they not make a machine that dispenses soap properly ? that seems pretty basic.

Just one note about the pre-wash: the pre-wash is a separate mini-wash cycle. It flushes away the detergent from that cycle because if it's allowed to remain, and detergent (not oxi product) was used in the pre-wash, then there would be too much detergent in the wash and it would actually inhibit stain removal. For a pre-wash to be of any use, the chemicals from the pre-wash must be flushed out before the main wash cycle. I hope that clears up a little of the confusion. :)

If you're not happy with it now, exchange it while you can--your dissatisfaction will only get worse. I bought a Craftsman lawn mower which had a lot of great things about it, but I let the sales guy talk me into front wheel drive. After mowing the yard twice, I just wasn't satisfied so I cleaned it up and brought it back. Sears gladly exchanged it for the rear-wheel drive version and it's so much better. I'm glad Sears has such a great satisfaction guarantee.

Maybe go back to your local Sears, talk to a Blue Appliance Crew associate and tell him/her the things you don't like.  S/he may be able to let you know if Electrolux has those same features, or not.  Then, maybe do a comparison on a new top loader, too. There are some amazing top loaders that are energy efficient out there, too.

Let us know what you decide!  It is a tough decision!

blue guy ..... IM still not getting it .

There are 2 sections for soap a section for prewash and one for main wash but it washes the soap pout of both sections for prewash so there is nothing left when its time for the main wash.  That isnt right is it ?

I was referring to the other poster's concern that the pre-wash goes through a full rinse and spin before the main wash cycle's detergent enters the wash. I guess I wasn't completely clear about that.

So I just went out to sears and talked to the owner of the store ( small town ) he is emailign samsung about the issues. I also called samsung again and today they said they are workign on a fix but she thought it would only be for new machines not a fix for machines already purchased.  If I thought  fix was comign out I would feel better but I dont want to be left out of the fix it should go to everyone.      Also the store owner told me I should only use liquid not powder I told him th ewas the opposite of what i had heard but he said liquid breaks down better  and doesnt build up but I thought i was told the opposite. its just that I cant spend 3500 again any time soon so I want to be sure in what I buy.

Blue crew guy Im sure you dont like to answer stuff like this but if you could have eitehr a samsung or electrolus wave today which would you choose for your self ?

I don't mind answering questions, but nobody should buy something just because it's what I like or what I own. I'd still probably go with the Samsung, as it's got a very Whirlpool-style build. We also use powder detergent most of the time, so premature draining wouldn't occur.

And, if I had to choose an Electrolux for myself, I'd take the IQ-Touch over the Wave-Touch, because I prefer the controls on it. That's all my personal preference, though. The washing performance (steam notwithstanding) for Wave and IQ Normal cycles should be pretty equivalent, though the Wave does have specialized cycles for particular stains (the stain removal menu is pretty cool).

Not to confuse the issue, but powder detergent should dissolve well enough, unless you have especially hard water.

how would you know if you had hard water ?

Well, you can take a sample to Sears and they can test it for you. But, the easiest way to know if you have hard water is if you see brown stains in toilets or tubs, or if you have crusty deposits on sinks, faucets, etc.

I got this in response to my questions might be of interest to some of you .

Hello! My name is Eric and I will help you as much as I can!
Ok. I will address each one of your concerns 1 by one.

"1. The liquid soap runs right into the laundry doesnt wait to be released. Samsungs answer to this was that I should use powder and that it really didnt go right in on the clothin it goes int water. NO it doesnt you can watch it run down the insude of the door. This flaw makes the prewash cycle useless because it takes all teh soap and there is none left for the main wash."
By design, unfortunately anything you put into the MAIN detergent area in the dispenser drawer has a CLEAR, UNRESTRICTED path into the washer. ALL of the water that enters the machine travels from the water valve, through the dispenser, and into the wash tub.The other areas in the dispenser work by using a diverter in the dispenser to divert the dispenser water over the correct cup, filling the cup, then, using siphon tubes in the removable TOP cover of the dispenser, siphons the cup clear. The MAIN detergent area does not use the siphon process. When the computer callls for fill, the water simply runs into the main detergent area and move the detergent don the chute and into the tub.PLEASE ONLY use an HE formulated soap in this machine and you only need a MAXIMUM of 4TBS of that.Powder or liquid is your choice but powder disolves just a little slower and will not run into the machine without water. It can also cause clumps though. You must also remove the dispenser drawer periodically and remove the top of it to clean the sipon tubes and the cups.

"2. I have had many times a small amount of water drips out down the front from the bottom of the door, Sears says this is if you have ANY hair or and small piece of lint it will act like a syphin so I have to wipe it out after each load."
This is true IF the water is actually coming out through the area between the door glass and door seal. It needs to be kept clear of debris. I have been on MANY calls where 1 piece of hair IS the cause. A quick wipedown with a non-abrasive cloth is a good habit to get into after each load. Most, not all front-load machines have this issue. It is because the door frame tends to be a little flimsy on some of them.

"3. You can start another load right away without powering off then back on this is also the way the dryer works. A pain."
I am assuming you meant that you CANT start another load without pressing cancel or off or shutting the machine off. PLEASE make sure that the cycle is IN FACT finnished and if you have, then this is normal. It might be a pain for you but this is by design for MANY machines. If enough people complain about it, they will design a software upgrade to rectify it but since its not safety related, you will likely have to pay for this.

"4. I cant choose extra hot on my whites cycle you have to go and use sanitize and add steam and silvercare to that giving you and almost 2 hour wash cycle. I think it was 1hour 54"
Most of the "pre-programmed" cycles limit the kind of changes you can make to them. I KNOW this sucks, but there SHOULD be a CUSTOM CYCLE option you can use to program a cycle tailored just for you.Check your manual. As far as the time it takes, when you use "sanitize", the cycle time is lengthened because now the washer has to heat the water hotter than the water from your water heater. The steam module also need a little more time to produce usable steam from the water. This is just physics and dishwashers with sanitize cycles do the same thing. Maybe some day engineers will design in-line, on demand heaters into this washer which MIGHT speed things along but most manufacturers use a simple heater in the tub to get the hotter temps. Once again, by design.
I hope this information helps you. If I can clarify any of this, please post back!

here is some more of what he had to say.

To be honest with you, the Electrolux (Frigidaire) is going to have similar annoyances. At this point, that is all I can really call them because they really aren' t actual "PROBLEMS". Just engineers trying to decide how to give a customer what he/she THINKS the customer wants while at the same time, trying to design a machine that fits into THEIR respective company's budgetary constraints. Its a balancing act and honestly, there really is no perfect machine out there. I personnaly really like the Samsung/LG machines because I feel they are extremely innovative and thoughtfully designed, have a RELATIVELY low repair rate and have a RELATIVELY high overall customer satifaction level. Of course, there are ALWAYS exceptions and the best thing to do is to talk to others you trust that may own a machine you are interested in and see what their personal experiences have been. EVEN THAT, though sometimes is not enough. So the answer is that if I have to choose, I choose the Samsung.
Thanks!

Are you going to stick with your Samsung, mom4321?

I think I probably will as it sounds like there would just be a new set of frustrations with electrolux and all teh techs have told me they would choose samsung over electrolux. When we bought it they steered us away from electrolux at the store saying it had some issues.  Im afraid if I switched then wished I had my samsung back id be stuck.

ITs to bad you can try these things out side by side in the stores. They are not even plugged in to play with controls on most of them . of course somethign like the soap issue you wouldnt know till you actually did a few loads.

Since you already own a Samsung I was wondering if I could ask you a question. I am not sure how to explain this.......when the washer is recycling the water does your water sprayer spray onto the clothes?  Mine has a small stream onto the clothes but the majority is spraying down my door back into the drain at the bottom of the door opening.  I am wondering if this is part of my problem or if this is normal for the machine.  It doesn't do it in the beginning of the cycle just after the inital fill.  I asked the rep if the detergent running down the door into the drain is wasted and he said no that it is sprayed back onto the clothes.  I am just wondering if this is normail because it seems silly.  It goes from the sprayer to the drain and back to the sprayer and back into the drain with a trickle onto the clothes.
