They absolutely do -- calcium is one of the core components of "hard water".

You can read more about it on the Kenmore Water site:  http://www.kenmorewater.com/website/problems/working-water/hard-water/hard-water-solutions-frame.html

Does Kenmore softners filter out maganese and iron, I have very hard water 28 gpm.

Manganese 0.3mg/l

Iron 2.5mg/l

Would a Kenmore 370 take care of my hard wellwater?

The manual for Kenmore water softeners suggests using potassium chloride for people on low sodium diets, yes.

you need an iron filter to remove the iron the water softner will not remove the iron

Kenmore softeners are rated for up to about 10 ppm of clearwater Iron. An iron filter uses a clay instead of resin beads to remove greater iron levels but operate the same way. The $250 Maintenance agreement is probably a good investment if you are unfamiliar with a softener's operation.

Between 1 and 2 bags depending on model and hardness. Here's a comparison guide for Kenmore water softeners:

Do you need to regen every day or does the softner regen as required.

How much water go to drain in the regen process.

New, the softener will regen every night for a few days, after that, it will regenerate every couple days, maybe only once/wk depending on settings and usage. The Kenmore softeners are factory set to regenerate between 2 and 4 AM, but that is adjustable by the owner. Around 15-20 gallons of water will backwash out the drain during that time. I AM NOT AN EXPERT< imho.

Having a problem, the water seem to continue to overflow. Tried to reset the unit but it end up with ERR1 message. Can't seem to figure out the problem after running thru the dianositics. Thought I had it and the regen was timing down but ended with ERR! again. Would disconnecting to allow the memory to elapse help. Any Suggestions. Is there a hot line number to help.

Have you checked the styrofoam float in the brine well? Its under that slanted cap. Where's your manual?

I have a drain on my softener that is 20 ft. long. I increased the pipe to 3/4" pvc and sloped the pipe to allow the water to flow better. I am going thru an area that is cold and could possibly freeze. Would adding a perpendicular vent off this pipe help it flow faster. Suggestions or comments.
