LockedNew Web Site Design Not User Friendly

posted on November 19, 2009 at 07:08PM Inappropriate?

The new site design is slower and more difficult to use to filter results. Since we associates have to rely on the site in order to get the most current information, and check other stores inventory, and place orders for customers (because transfer sale/store locater has been inoperative for months) it is very difficult to have a slow and difficult web site.

Yes i concur specifically that the filters have been useless since the change. I'm sure we'd agree on other complaints that you have, because I'm sure everyone has been through them Lol

The site is not yet finished. It's currently a work in progress.

By the way, please don't use the inventory counts on sears.com as gospel. ALWAYS call before sending the customer to the store, to confirm the count. Nothing is worse than sending someone to another store only to find out that an online inventory count was incorrect, or that it got sold out from under them in the meantime, etc. They'll never come back to you to buy anything, and they'll probably not come back to the store you sent them to, as well, if there's a mix-up that could have been averted with a 2 minute phone call.

So basically what you are saying is that even online shoppers who didn't even come in to a Sears store should call the store to check for inventory? What a fantastic convenience for customers!

A "work in progress" website should not be live. It is a bad idea to use customers to do what is in effect, product testing.

And to the point of a 2 minute phone call, you've never actually called into a mall store before have you? If my only experience with Sears was attempting to contact a human being at a mall store, I wouldn't shop there at all. Luckily, there are smaller stores like mine where we can provide better customer service as there is no machine running interference between us and customer calls.

The confirmation eMail, for store pickup, is where a Customer chosen store actually locates the inventory and confirms its availability to online shoppers.

I work at a Sears Essentials, where the phone rings in the store and is answered in the store by a person in the store. And, if you wanted to buy something, would you trust an online count completely? What retailer would ever tell you that their inventory system is 100% perfect, and never has any discrepancies? Find me that retailer, and I'll find you someone you can never trust.

Ugh, I really dislike the site.  The inventory count on the site is also pretty bad.  We get so many complaints as the customer goes through the whole ordering process only to find out later that the item is out of stock.  I don't understand it.

Well the mysears.com site looks pretty user friendly...maybe they copy off this design?

Sears.com is surely a work in progress ~ though I have had the same issue happen to me on Amazon (ZOMG suprise ~ mistakes on an online site)

As a web development student I agree our site is not very user friendly. Now our inventory system works differently than it did before. If it is an item on display there has to be 3 items in stock in order for it to display in stock online, if it is an item not on display then there must be 2 items in-stock for it to display online.

Basically this new system has been issued to make sure that if it says its instock online it actually is instock because it requires a certain amount of stock before it will even show up online. So yes a lot of the time it will say out of stock online but actually still be in stock in the store.
