After trying to purchase a gym from Sears for 2 months, I had to settle for this unit, as my other choices were always out of stock. Assembly- instructions are terrible, a video would be much better. some assembly is out of order, like putting up the shroud during weight assembly, bad idea, save it for later or you will be holding it up while trying to hold up weight bars and putting on weight at same time, too many hands needed!! not all parts are labeled and part orientation in drawings is very poor. as well as their cardboard part sets like for frame assembly, or pulley assembly, parts are mixed between the two & other parts are in bags so happy hunting! I am a 5'6 woman and assembly took 8 hours and I am very mechanically inclined. As for use- bench press is in the way of lat bar use from a seated position, you will hit the arms, ouch! Butterfly press is designed for a mans arm span, or small gorilla, ha. Better jack up the seat as well to reach them.

Weider should spent...
...

I'm an 18 year old college student who was looking to gain a little muscle. I have found this to be a great way to add muscle to your body. Since I've gotten this I've improved my bench press from 135lbs to 205lbs. The only thing that I see as a downfall is the amount of weight you actually get with this. For me, I'm limited to how much I can actually push myself since the max weight (for chest press) is 195lbs. I'm moving away to go to a different college and I'm going to get a membership at a local gym. This is definitely a good system to use.
...

This gym took 2 days to assemble by myself. As a female, just wanting to tone though, it does the trick and uses very little space. There should be more instructions though on how to adjust the cables once they have settled in. Overall, a good addition to my exsisting pieces of equipment. Directions can be overwhelming though in assembly. Not enough detail on which direction parts go until you have to dissamble and reassemble to complete the next step.
...

I bought this as a surprise gift for my husband on our anniversary. Big mistake!! He started to put it together and the main base piece was bent and was he unable to get the screws in correctly. I called Sears (I bought the extra warranty). They sent out the part and it must be a common problem because it was back ordered and wasn't being shipped until 3 weeks later. I received the new part today. The end of the part that was originally bent on the one side was correct, however on the other end was now bent. Just got off the phone with Sears again. They are sending out a technician who isn't available to come to my house for another 3 weeks. The customer service representative stated he will not be coming with a new part.I will update my review once we actually get it together...if we don't decide to take it back in the meantime.
...

I bought this system yesterday for our family to use at home. I love the compact design since we are limited on space. This system offers a great range for starters and can be expanded as your needs change.

The only downside I have seen so far is the complexity of the assembly instructions and the poor quality of the visual diagrams. I would recommend going through and highlighting in different colors the number of pullies used vs. what you have. The instructions were somewhat confusing for the pullies and cable routings, but we figured it out without a huge amount of trouble. It would have been great if they had included some full color photos to go along with the sketched illustrations.

Overall, I'm happy with this set and I'm sure it will help us accomplish our goals. The price for what you get beats the pants off of the BowFlex systems, and after reading a lot of the 130+ reviews on this system, and at the recommendation of a friend at Sears, this was an easy choice for me to make.
...

Good value for $399.99. Reading the reviews was very helpful. It does take 8 - 10 hours to assemble. Finding the right parts during the assembly will take 80% of the time. The company did a good job labeling the parts. The bolts, washers, nuts, etc., are separated into 3 blisters corresponding to each stage of the assembly, which was very helpful. Labeling of the pulleys would have been a great time saver. I did not need any assistance in assembling it (I am 5'11", 195 lbs). Although you can assemble it with a wrench, it is highly advisable to use a ratchet set. The assembly did NOT come with enough grease for the moving parts, especially the weight stack. All it came with is two 3"X3" plastic bags with about 2oz of grease each. The reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the amount of resistance. It's a good value for the amount of resistance it currently offers, however it would be a great value if it offered up to 250lbs of resistance. I wouldn't...
...

All the reviews were very helpfull with regards to purchasing the machine and having the patience to assembly it, the parts should be identified. My husband, son and I assembled it in 5 hours, one was reading and matching the parts and each took turns, it was fun. The downside is that the excercise chart has mixed machines and is not specific to the Weider 4300. If you are a 5.2" person, you will not be able to reach the butterfly station. My husband suggested welding an extension to the seat adjusting pipe. Overall the machine looks complete and should be able to provide the necessary workout you desire. Good for the buck!!! Eventually we will be able to build some muscle....

Do not do the seated row or back extension exercises on this system! This will cause damage to the cable at the point where the cable feeds through the leg lever. The cable rubs against the leg extension tube. This is a design flaw that needs to be fixed.

Then, replacing the cables will cost you a pretty penny. They run about $85 each. When I called, I was told that all three (plus shipping) would cost $300. Heck, I paid that for the whole system!

Even with those two flaws, it's a good system and delivers a good workout....

I've had the 4300 for about two weeks and so far everything I read on-line is true. It is a major task to put together so have patience, give yourself plenty of time to assemble it and definitely have a couple of socket sets on hand (all of which the assembly manual recommends). Labeling the parts and prepackaging assemblies separately would help tremendously. Twice I had to take apart an assembled unit due to using the wrong part. One was my fault after missing a clearly defined step in the instructions, the other was a result of a poor illustration and unclear description in the manual. Also there are a lot of plastic parts which made me feel it was kind of "cheap" but you get what you pay for. Once it is assembled it is worth the effort. The arms for the press do interfere with the lat pull down while seated. Those cons aside the system is great and our whole family is enjoying using it. My wife has found it easy to use including weight adjustments and moving from one exercise to another.......

After reading the reviews on this equipment I have found that this is a good system. Putting it together was fairly easy. You have to ready look at the instructions to insure you don't miss anything. The only drawback is that some of the parts in the bags are not marked and the instructions really don't tell you where to find these parts. So when other people say it takes awhile to put together, well it does because of this. You need a second person for only about 15 minutes to hold the upright poles while assembling. Other that that once put together this is a real nice machine for body shaping. No big weight here but enough to get the job done.

"I'm Happy whit it"!....

after getting past the assembly which i paid for,
this machine does not come with detail step by step instruction on how to use this specific machine with the different exerises capability unique to this machine. oddly enough the user,s manual focuses 90% on assembly and the additional 10% on general basics about exercising. nothing helpful or specific about this machine. one very important piece of info i find missing from weider is how to perform all the exercises listed . even though i have been to a gym before and have also worked out with a trainer i have used different machines and i am at a lost on the correct form and the how to's of this machine. another thing the exercise chart included is picturesque but it again is a cheap shot from weider by providing a guide that is a comprehensive guide for all the different home gyms offered by weider and most of the pictures is from another home gym , not this one , the stations are different , the feathures are different and the exercises......

I wanted to buy to buy a strength and conditioning all in one weight system that would fit in a medium sized room in my basement. The Weider 4300 is perfect for this. My wife is in her forty's and she uses this to workout on every other day in the morning before she goes to work. She doesn't have to go to the gym and she works out in her pajamas and listens to her Ipod. Please take my advice and pay the extra $190.00 to have it put together by a Sears. It is well worth the money plus if anything happens to break in the next three year's you are covered for free(parts and labor). I also bought the hard rubber floor mats from Sears to build it on. We both are very happy with this purchase and the value for the money we spent is well worth it. Don't even try and put this together yourself. Trust me let Sears take care of it. You will be very happy without the aggravation. It took the guys an hour and a half to build this vs me doing it taking 10 hours. So happy!!!...
