Whirlpool 24 in. Portable Dishwasher —
We have owned many portable dishwashers over the years and we were most disappointed in the Whirlpool which because it was the most expensive portable available and had the best ratings, promised to be a good buy. It wasn't.
First, it's capacity is much more limited than one would expect. This is because the racks are so poorly designed. It is hard to fit cereal bowls and other bowls in or any odd shaped dishes. Our old Maytag had a much better designed trays and would hold a 1/3 more dishes than the Whirlpool in the same amount of space.
Although it has a unique silverware tray that fits into the door, silverware does not get clean unless the silverware tray us placed in the bottom tray. We thought it would be a useful feature but it isn't except that being able to open up one side of the tray when emptying it is helpful.
Moreover, it takes an additional cycle to get the dishes clean but it does get them clean.
Consequently, because of the limited capacity, we have to run the washer more frequently using much more water. And because an additional cycle is necessary to get dishes clean, we use more electricity. Both mean the Whirlpool is more costly to use and it is not environmentally friendly.
The controls are easy to use and having additional cycles available gives us more flexibility. But I wish we could substitute our old Maytag trays. We never knew how good the old Maytag was until we bought the Whirlpool.
