“Don't purchase this product-$400. repair for manufacturer defect”

I purchased this oven about 5 years ago- top of the line Whirlpool. After the first time I used the self- cleaning feature the display pad kept showing an error code. I can use the oven still, but at times it will go black and not work at all. I found out that the keypad needs replaced to the tune of $400! This may not even fix the problem and it will be more money to replace the control pad. I also read other reviews about it failing again after the costly repairs. I called Whirlpool and basically was told- "too bad."

“Expensive to fix”

We bought this oven four years ago (2004) and it worked well for the first 3 years. We preformed about 4 "self cleans" and then the control panel started to fail but could be reset at the breaker. It eventually failed totally and we were told that the heat from the self cleaning eventually failed the control panel. The cost of the repair was going to be $800.00 which included labor, the control panel and module. This was a good product for a while but we did not expect to replace it after only four years.

“DO NOT BUY”

The self cleaning feature on this oven is defective and Whirlpool REFUSES to fix it. When the self cleaning starts the unit heats up and burns out the control unit....$450.00 part plus $200.00 labor cost. This problem persist on both the Whirlpool and Whirlpool Gold unit from 1997-present.

“Whirlpool double ovens”

I bought these whirlpool double ovens about 4 years ago, they have had light use. I had to pay to have the hinges on the top oven door replaced 2 years ago, the springs sagged so much from the heat that they would no longer keep the oven door closed. About one year later the replacement hinges are sagging and need replacement again. Just this week when I was using the self cleaning oven feature, all of the power blacked out on the oven and the top oven door remains locked. Four years service for a $1,200 appliance is terrible. “great for the hoidays and everyday use”

I love my double ovens. The self-clean feature is wonderful. I only buy whirlpool appliances and have great luck with them.
