Power, peformance and style at a reasonable price

Whirlpool 36" Gas-On-Stainless Cooktop GLS3665R —

This is a heavy-duty and powerful cooktop with unique styling that some will love while leaving others wanting something different. We bought this cooktop due to its professionally appearance, high output (sealed) burners, very heavy grates, and reliability and dependability of the Whirlpool name. We are very happy with this cooktop. The look is pure professional. The grates take up 95% of the visible surface area leaving unused space to a minimal around the edging while utilizing very little, yet ample, space for the 5 knobs. This is not your everyday looking cooktop in that it is a very rugged with a very pro-like appearance. This cooktop is meant to cook a lot of food-fast. The burners put out a lot of heat/power. The btu rating is higher than most cooktops costing hundreds of dollars more. The sealed burners are great because you don't need to worry about spills putting out the flame and clean-up is much easier. If you've ever had non-sealed burners, you now what a mess it can be when food or liquids get under the burnerwhat a clear-up mess. The very heavy-duty iron grates are wonderful. Pots and pan effortless slide from burner to burner without the problem of the grates coming dislodged from their set location or popping up on one end due to excessive weight on one of the ends. We were surprised how much we liked the heavy grates because we never really gave it much thought regarding the single burner grates compared to continuous grates but now that we own the latter, we will now only buy continuous grates. If you've never had them, they make cooking so much easier. The name Whirlpool speaks for itselfquality and dependability. Look at Consumer Reports ratings for reliability and you'll see Whirlpool is always among the leaders in customer satisfaction and low repair rates. Look at the professional look of Whirlpool and compare it to other professional line manufactures and the Whirlpool will always be at or near the top Though we really enjoy this cooktop, based on the above you'd probably think we have nothing negative to say. For the most part, that would be true; however, in our opinion, it does have a few shortcomings. Because of the size and appearance, it is not exactly an effortless fit into a pre-existing hole in you countertop. It did require a custom cut as the cut-out dimensions were slightly wider than the cooktop it's replacing. The sealer-burner covers discolored after only 4 months of use. The only way we were able to get them clear was (thanks to tips from Whirlpool customer services) to use a cook-top cleaner which after a short while and some strong rubbing, it looks brand new. Because of cooktop is meant for high output, the low output range is lacking. Trying to melt chocolates or prepare other very delicate dishes is difficult because the btu range does not reach the very low levels required by some cooks.. Another issue is the knobs. They look like they are heavy solid steel (like one of its competitors makes on its near top-of-the-line model) but it is very light and a slightly different color than the rest of the cooktop which gives it a faded and slightly inelegant look. Whirlpool should have used heavy solid steel knobs to match the rest of this otherwise heavy-duty cooktop. If you're looking for professional grade combined with great reliability and dependability at a reasonable price, definitely consider this cooktop!
