A Bit Disappointed

Whirlpool 4.0 cu. ft. I.E.C. Top-Load Super Capacity Plus Washing Machine (WTW57ESV) —

We chose this washer for the water saving feature. When it came yesterday it had a big dent on the top and a few smaller dings on the front. (It is being replaced with another and we're allowed to keep this one until we get the replacement, a gesture I appreciate as our old washer was leaking and couldn't be used anymore. They also carted the old one away). In the meantime we were able to test run the new one. It does a great job on larger loads but the sensor doesn't seem to work at all with smaller loads. The tub filled with water almost to the top and I only had a few items in it and that's a waste it is suppose to prevent! The other thing I don't like is I couldn't load the clothes in the washer with the water running into the tub. With the lid up the washer stops running and the water stops. After the tub fills with water and starts the wash cycle, if you lift the lid up to just check the clothes and then put the lid down instead of continuing the wash cycle it started to pump more water into the tub. If it had sensed there was enough water previously, then it should have just continued with the wash cycle. We're not sure if we are going to keep the replacement. We're hoping that due to the fact that it was damaged it may have something to do with how it is running and maybe the replacement will work better. If not we'll be returning it, we want to be able to control the water feature more.

Just as an fyi--- the new whirlpools have a senor that only test the loads before it starts. So---if you lift the lid it will default to "extra large" load. This is a feature that will enable it to save water. With all HE model (this is very close to one) there should be a "lock" feature however this does not because consumers wanted the option to "open the tub when wanted". So, it is not something wrong with the item, it is just a completely different way of using them. Just as an FYI--- fill it, close it and watch it work wonders.
