Whirlpool 4.0 cu. ft. I.E.C. Top-Load Super Capacity Plus Washing Machine (WTW57ESV) —

I recently replaced my Hotpoint washer and dryer set that was 18 years old. I had done a lot of shopping around on styles and price comparison and settled on the Whirlpool 4.0 cu.ft. I.E.C. Super Capacity Plus top-Load Washer with matching dryer. This review is on the washer. I was hoping to notice a difference in cleanliness, but I hadn't expected to be flabberghasted at how much cleaner the clothes are with this washer! Boy, how technology has improved since I first bought my Hotpoints! This washer saves energy and water too. It has the feature that determines water level based on load of clothes...automatically shutting off the water...that keeps the clothes down in the bottom third of the tub for agitation and increases the cleaning action. The only thing I've had to get used to is the fact that you can't open the lid once the machine is turned on or else it interrupts that function, and the water will kick back on and fill the tub. The salesperson had said that I could wait for the washer to start the cycle, then turn the cycle off at the knob, open the lid to add a forgotten item of clothing, close the lid, and re-start the cycle at the knob, and that this wouldn't disturb the function. But, I didn't find that to be true. However, having said that, I'm not finding this to be a nuisance...just something to get used to. It's a small price to pay for the water efficiency feature. So, you put your detergent(s) in the bottom of the tub...add the clothes, close the lid, set your dials and turn it on...then leave it alone. lThe washer is also much quieter than my old Hotpoint. I love the "extra rinse" feature, which I am using all the time. And, the "quick wash" feature is also something that is useful on less dirty items because it reduces the cycle time.I decided to buy the set in red...a fun treat to myself, but, there aredrawbacks to that choice that I should mention. I'll have to be careful of scratches...they'll show a lot more. And, if anything happens to the machine and it requires replacement, I'll have to hope that Whirlpool still makes this model in red. Hopefully having to replace due to breakage is a low risk...according to salespersons I talked to, this machine has a low incident of return or repair. I purposely picked a top loading machine and this particular model because it has less electronics in it that can possibly cause repair issues. So to summarize, I'm a happy camper!
