I bought the X-Cargo Sport 20 Car Top Carrier after looking at a bunch of different brands that were much more expensive. We drove over 2000 miles in snow, wind, ice and sun and our stuff was protected perfectly. Good choice for those going across country on a big trip and want room in the vehicle.
This box is as advertised. Very similar to better known brands and sales associate confirmed they are made by Thule. I was planning on leaving the box on my vehicle for extended periods of time since I can't park my car in the garage with it on, but I was disappointed to find out that the users manual tells you not to drive above about 40 mph with an empty box. I left a few things in there to help weigh it down, although I never noticed any problems. I'm sure the manufacturer is just concerned with covering themselves by being overly conservative. Cargo box is a bit short. I can barely...
read full review »I spent a lot of time researching car top carriers, and ended up purchasing this one. So glad I did. You can get the expensive name-brand carrier for 2-3 times the cost of this one, but still have less space. This one is big, but fairly aerodynamic. I noticed maybe a 1-2 mpg drop with it on. I used it on two separate 1500+ mile trips this summer and it worked perfectly. Was easy to set up and take down, had no road noise, and kept lots of rain out. I had no issue with the u-bolts because I attached it to removable crossbars, and just easily remove the cross bars when taking it...

The carrier worked perfectly. We were suprised at the amount of room which it had and it accomodated all of our "stuff" without difficulty. Mounting was simple but we did need to use a ladder to see adequately as our Yukon sits high. We did not notice any problems with the stripping of the wing nuts as described in some earlier reviews. On our latest trip, we encountered 50-60 mph winds and torrential rains for about 3 hours. With...
read full review »It worked perfect for us, we put it on our Ford Escape we went from Illinois out west and back about 2,500 miles total. No problem with water, no noise, not hard to install. It held everything we needed and more. There were .3 adults, a 2 year old and a 4 year old. So there was a lot of luggage and we needed the inside space. I would recommend this to anyone. It was not expensive. Great product
We had to replace an old Sears carrier with this one. It was great from the very beginning. It was easy to install (on a Toyota Highlander), did not leak (and we went through a major rain/thunder storm in Chicago), there was no noise and best of all, we kept track and didn't appear to have any impact on the gas mileage. We used it to go up into Canada for a fishing trip and put over 2,000 miles on it. It was rained on, hailed on, baked in the sun and bugged but came through beautifully. It was a breeze to clean up and is light enough that one person can carry it. We put a moving blanket...
read full review »I bought this to help transport two children (2 yrs and 2 mo's) a dog and two adults from Michigan to Florida. This means a lot of clothes and toys! Obviously we had a lot of stuff in the van (even a double stroller and a wagon) and needed space for all the clothes the girls would be growing into over 6 mo's. This box was the biggest and cheapest I could get. I was uncomfortable with the cloth bags due to weather concerns and the 'name' brand carrier is incredibly expensive. This seemed to fit the bill. Not only did I get all those clothes up there but also a small tricycle! The major thing to...

Needed some way of dealing with the luggage as the Audi is tight on cargo space and we needed all the seats. Eventually decided on a roof box but was shocked at the prices of the name brand (Thule/Yakima) boxes--$400+. Came across the X Cargo 20 and ended up with an online price of $159 + tax for a higher capacity box than available for 4 times the price. Was kind of expecting a lesser quality product but not so. Even had no issue with the stripping nuts and u bolts--I expect the manufacturer has now addressed....

Even though Mom is now in her '80s she still wants to cook her favorite meals in her favorite big pots. So, even though we are loaded to the gills with all our kids' stuff..boogie boards and such, we load in additional stuff like huge pots, 2 walkers, 1 wheel chair, 1 potty chair and all sorts of paraphenalia for the other end of the age spectrum. The Sport 20 Carrier is fantastic, literally gobbling up all of our bulky, oddly shaped...
read full review »Bought it on sale and used it for a trip from Oklahoma to Florida. Worked flawlessly. You MUST use care when using the hand-screws to secure it to your luggage rack. Do NOT overtighten or they will strip. I learned this from reading the other reviews prior to buying the product. They don't have to be screwed down like you would a normal nut. When it starts to get tight just go another 1/4 to 1/2 turn and you're good to go. Mount as far back as possible while still allowing your tailgate to open and you'll reduce the effect on your mileage. We didn't notice any mileage impact on...

We are a family of six so if we are gone for a couple of weeks at a time that creates much luggage. The carrier is great for making more room in our vehicle. I have also not had any problems with a large decrease in fuel milage. In fact, I have not observed any change. We have driven through several heavy rain storms and the top has remained dry
The only negative that I have is that the u-bolts and knobs strip way to easily. I went to the local Sears to...
read full review »We bought this box after looking for a while. I noticed that the box is made by the same manufacture as another expensive brand. I spoke to the sales associate at Sears and expressed my concern about the previous reviewers bad experiences with striped out parts. The associate assured me that he sells several and has only had one returned due to the striped problem. I opted for them to install as I saved $10.00 buying online and had NO problems during our 12hr round trip drive. This is a great buy and was perfect!
