Zenith Digital TV Tuner w/ Analog Pass-Through —
I had already purchased two APEX DTV converter boxes. I got the APEX because it was the only brand that offered s-video cable connect, which is supposed to give a higher quality video than the standard A/V cables. This unit has problems hanging onto the digital signal. I can see the signal strength fluctuate greatly and the picture quality vary also. I live by an airport and the APEX unit cannot hang onto the digital signal. Every time an airplane goes by, the picture frags and freezes.
The Zenith unit appears to be immune to airplane interference and really hangs onto the digital signal. I can see the signal strength vary a little but the TV program remains uninterrupted. The Zenith's auto-scan picked up more stations than the auto-scan on the APEX and acquired at least one channel that the APEX could not ... and would not even when I attempted to manually select it.
Even though the Zenith unit has only the standard A/V cable hookups, the picture quality is excellent and way better than the s-video connected picture from the APEX unit.
This unit is an excellent buy for the price. I'm going back to Sears to get another one.
