I apologize for the delay. The previous generation of iFit programs were on SD cards, and were pretty fool-proof. I believe the new version (iFit Live) connects to the computer if I remember correctly, which may be where some of the issues arise. I'd probably let the first generation go by before investing in it. Most people get plenty of variety out of the on-board programs for a good while, anyway, and I believe the non-iFit Live version should have the SD card-based iFit system, which would allow you to expand your workout possibilities later on.

A reason to buy the shorter 55" deck. Too bad you can't "feel" the 985, see if the toe plate is far enough forward.

The 690 is on sale at sears for 699.00. The 985 looks like a better treadmill, only a 55" belt but has the chest monitor, bigger motor and a 2 year warranty. I find the round handles more comfortable too.
