I first heard about the Dryden Cafe about a year ago on television. It was developed to help put Dryden ,New York back on the map. Last year I attended a fortieth class year reunion for the class of 1968 at Dryden Highschool. Dan Kimbrough one of my classmates said I can't believe how much Dryden,New York has gone down hill since 1968. He currently lives in Allentown,Pennsylvannia and said the cost of living is high there ,but not like it is in New York State. Dryden,Groton and Freeville are sandwiched between Ithaca and Cortland. These municipalities represent small town America in the fifties and the sixties. They all share similar problems. Last year gasoli8ne soaresd to $4.46 a gallon in Ithaca. It went down to $1.85 a gallon.however, heating fuels remained high last winter. I was heating patially with wood. Propane was going for $3.99 a gallon on discount and $4.25 a gallon on regular price and I have a five hundred gallon tank. The Dryden Cafe has been trying to recruit more volunteers. I attended the last meeting this last Monday. My neighbor is anxiouis to use the Gravely Rotory Plow. I recently took the current prices from Richard's Lawn and Garden. Many of the prices have doubled since 2004.Groton and Cortland used to home for the Smith Corona Marchant. They were building the last portable typewriters in the United States. The Dryden Cafe is a good idea. Problem is some people can't afford to volunteer. You can find the Dryden Cafe at :drydencommunitycafe@yahoo.com.This web will give you an idea about the Cafe. I am glad to hear from you.
