The information I mentioned should be kept in mind when purchasing any shoe. It's not that a particular shoe has a particular problem; it's that a particular shoe is designed for a particular step. If you won't try shoes on first, contact the manufacturer and ask them if they have shoes designed for your particular type of step. If you don't know your step, I'd suggest checking out http://www.thestretchinghandbook.com/archives/pronation-supination.php . Anybody who's having issues finding shoes that are comfortable may also want to visit an orthopedist.

It's a common misunderstanding that a brand of shoes makes all of its shoes to feel/fit the same way. However, companies like New Balance, Nike, and other athletic shoe manufacturers design certain models to fit certain ways. Some models are designed for supination, some for pronation, some for heel strikers, some not. Whether or not a particular shoe feels right depends as much upon the model as it does the size. I have a feeling if you were able to describe to NB the type of step you have, they might be better able to locate a shoe that will conform properly to your foot.

Update:

Wife got involved in this matter yesterday and New Balance said they would send out another different model and size pair.. the shoes came this afternoon.. I waited to open the box until wife got home. She pleaded with me to try them on.. Reluctantly I open the box.. clear markings on the box indicated that the size in the box was 10.5 D However checking the tongue.. told a different story. 9.5 D so wrong again New Balance..

Expect a call from wife tomorrow morning.. I'm finished with any New Balance products.. This was a clear case of negligence on New Balance and the packaging department of New Balance.

Hi there @jeeplife. As you may have noticed, most shoe manufacturers have different ways of cutting their shoes. My suggestion would be two-fold (1) ask an associate to properly measure your feet and (2) try the product in-store. Sorry there's not an easier solution but following the steps above could result in a better shopping experience for you.

Ok.. lets not get confuse here.. I didn't buy the first pair of shoes from Sears.. I was just noticing sears carried New Balance and wondered if anyone else has had this type of issue from them.

The main reasons I contacted you.. is because I'm going to be looking into a new pair of shoes (different brand) and just wanted to know a few things.. and a few brands.. I'm considering Caterpillar Men's Antidote Oxford or Craftsman Men's Composite Toe Hiker Boot. But here is my issues.. most shoes I buy or attempt to buy.. tend to force the front of my foot up making me feel like I'm walking on my heels. Is this another issue any one has reported?..

I'm not saying New Balance is or has a fault.. but clearly they sent the shoes the wrong address which I sent and email with my correct full address.. I guess what I'm saying and have learn.. never buy online.. Products you haven't had a chance to test or try on first hand..

This will decrease my online purchases and increase my in store purchases.. which could be a good thing for sears.

Update: At 10:56 am My regular UPS driver went out of his way to deliver not one but two pair of New Balance shoes.. Opening one box I was nervous to try them on.. turns out that the shoe was to tight.. 10.5 is my size.. and the shoes forced my feet upward in the front.. So nearly 4 weeks and still I'm unable to find the right pair of shoes.

Not even opening the second box I called my wife to tell her the disappointing news.. She intern went off and called NEw Balance.. New Balance informs her they can not refund our money.. but they are willing to send not one, not two but three pair of shoes for me to try on this time..

Clearly I have stated to NB that all of their shoes will not work on my foot because all their shoes force the ball and toes of my feet upward.. which isn't good for my lower back.

I told wife I'm finished with NB and will not have anything more to say to them.. Also told wife she can get what ever shoes she wants from NB, I'll shop elsewhere from now on..

Unrelated New Balance Shoe Topic

Nearly 4 weeks ago my wife bought me a pair of New Balance cross training shoes.. (from another store) two weeks after wearing the shoes.. the heel's soul started pulling away from the shoe.. I contacted New Balance and asked what could be done about this..

They informed me that I could send the shoes back to New Balance and select a comparable pair from their web site as a replacement. I selected a shoe and sent them numerous emails to this fact. After a few days.. I got an email from New Balance indicating that because of the issues with me "Not" having any shoes.. New Balance was going to send our the replacement pair in 5-7 days..(typically replacement shoes would be received 2-3 weeks)

Again I waited.. On the 14th. the UPS truck pulled up.. But it wasn't my regular driver.. I asked the temp. "Where's Gary?" the temp told me Gary was on vacation and would return in a few days.. While I had the driver.. I asked him if he had anything on his truck for me from New Balance. The driver indicated there wasn't anything on the truck and drove off.

it's now 3 weeks without shoes.. So I emailed New Balance. They told me that there was an error in the shipping address and they would over night another replacement pair of shoes.. Ok following me here?.. The shoes were to arrive this past Sat but again.. I noticed the UPS truck simply drive by..

Just so happen I recall Gary's cell Number and gave him a call.. I explain I was looking for not one but now two pair of shoes.. He said he would check around the terminal when he returns to work this morning. After speaking to him. I called the UPS terminal located near me and guess what.. They told me that the first shoes are sitting at their terminal waiting for delivery/pickup.. So here is the deal.. The first pair was on the UPS truck 14th when I spoke to the temp driver.. and he failed to deliver them. Second, I waited all day Sat for the UPS truck to deliver the so called "Over Night" shoes..

Needless to say.. I've been without shoes other then my wings beach combers.. (which are about to give up the ghost as we speak) So what going on now?.. Well I'm waiting to see if Gary can pull some strings Grab the shoes (both if possible) and deliver them to me today or give me a call and let me know the attempt failed.

So why post here at the sears community?.. Because If I don't acquire any shoes today.. Fri I'm heading to Sears (Having my Spark Plugs exchanged) and figured I'll go try on a pair of Caterpillar Men's Antidote Oxford or Craftsman Men's Composite Toe Hiker Boot and of course a review would soon follow..

Thanks for the feedback Rstinnett. We are working on our store layouts/displays and the brand selection. As Julie had mentioned, the online selection is much broader and we do carry some of the higher-end running/training shoes.

I really think if they would just invest a little bit of floor space to some higher-end running and athletic shoes they would see a lot more younger guys in the stores buying. It doesn't have to be Nike, Asics makes great running shoes and so does Adidas.

Have you tried the Therapeutic running shoes, new balance, or higher end shoes at KMart yet, rstinnett? I know you are something of a KMart expert.

I wore leg braces for many years, and I find the shoes at KMart has several varieties with great support. and I walked about 5 miles per day every day last year. While I did go through a lot of shoes, they served me very very well. You can get great prices and 50% off sometimes.

I know a lot of surveys and such are done for women's shoes and whatnot, but perhaps some in-store surveys of the guys as well might help you get a better selection available for us.

Shoes at Sears

Shopping at your Columbia, MO store today over lunch and looking at your shoe department I have a few questions and suggestions -- mostly suggestions.

First, as someone who tries to keep fit, I was very dissapointed in the styles you carried. Though you had Adidas, Reebok and Asics I did not see any of what I would call the higher-end shoes such as the Asics Kayono. Most of the shoes were pretty basic models with no real support for people who are into running, exercising, etc.

Secondly, I was also dissapointed in your men's slides. A lot of guys wear slides after a game to relax their feet. The two you had available have been available at this store for eons -- both basic Adidas styles. Nobody has bought them yet, and probably nobody ever will. Where is the Adidas SS 2G with Fitfoam -- one of the most popular slides out there right now?

It would be nice if you guys could get a broader selection in, or maybe just dedicate some space to those who want a higher-end shoe. On a few occassions I can find something I like at Sears, but lately the selection has just been plain boring!

I like the Catepillar steel-tipped Sneakers, that Sears carries.

But, since the accident, I don't do any "running" anymore.

They're excellent light/fast shoes to wear when you're on the go and safety (ANSI 75 rated) is also a key consideration.

Actually about 1/4 of their shoes are produced in the United States. If you check it out in stores, their less expensive shoes are made in China, and their more expensive ones are made here, which makes sense. Still, you have to give them a lot of credit for being the only major shoe company to maintain a manufacturing presence in the United States.

I wish that Sears could get Nike back.... hated they lost them when they merged with Kmart.
