First off, PUT THE 15 AMP BREAKER BACK IN!!! Unless you're trying to burn your house down!!!! A 15 amp breaker will be ran with wire rated for 15 amps and connected to switches and outlets rated for 15 amps. Second, check your pressure relief like ShadetreeRet suggested, and also check your bleeder drain valve. make sure everything is closed and the tank is able to hold air.

Sounds like the pressure relief valve is stuck and is not letting the pressure bleed off when it shuts off. If this pressure is not released, the switch will either not turn on, or if it does the motor cannot turn the compressor.

By the way, NEVER change out a breaker for a larger breaker! If a building is wired to code, a 15 amp breaker may have smaller wire than a 20 amp and could build up excessive heat, creating a dangerous situation. (Just my two cents.)

When I try to start my air compressor model 106.154781(not a 220), the 15 amp breaker is thrown. I do not see any sparks near the motor. All i hear is a small sound like a little puff of air. I changed the breaker to a 20 amp but still got the same results. The pressure control switch does not click off. I remains motionless.

Oh, I was wrong about the run capacitor being good and that is why I changed it out, but just changing that didn't make much, if any difference, so that's why I went to a bigger start capacitor. The model number is the same as on the heading here

Hey inquisitivemind and sorry for the very later reply! I don't come on much and only came on tonight to complain about a recent purchase I made (bought a 5 drawer ball bearing roller tool box and it already has a drawer sticking).

To answer your question.... Yes, it has alway ran on 110 volts, but not with the regulator set at 115lbs. So, I guess it did run ok when under this pressure, but I have it running 3/4 impacts and stuff that require more pressure now and 70-80lbs wasn't going to do the trick. I do A/C and Ref work so I had a bunch of Capacitors laying around, so I changed the run capacitor out to a new one and to factory specs, and also changed out the start capictor to a bigger one with more MF's . Can't remember what size I put on it and it's cold as hell out side (to cold to go open the box it's in to check), so please forgive me if I don't list the size, but it worked fine for 115 lbs and thats it. I tried it at 120lbs, just to see what it wold do and it wouldn't start, so i think it would have to be reconfigured to 220volts if I wanted more pressure, but I don't have the need for more, plus I'd have to put in a 220volt box, because I don't have one in the area of the compressor at this time. Hope that helped somehow, thanks for asking, and have a great New Year holiday! :)

I have to say I like my Craftsman table saw. However I bought one I found on clearance (in fact it got me started in woodworking) that was a tabletop model on a stand. Mine is a 10" with a 3hp motor. As far as the saw it cuts great, but the table is small, and due to the short arbor it can not accept nicer dado blades. I would suggest if you can afford, and have the room one of the larger models. If you don't have the room the Craftsman Pro contrator model at least has a belt driven blade system which is much better if it binds, as a belt is cheaper to replace than the motor itself. Also the contractor model has a router table sort of built in, and has a larger table than mine does. The only thing on mine is the rip fence is very inaccurate, I find I HAVE to measure at both ends of the blade to get it accurate, but that is the case with most fences on smaller saws.

I would suggest the table saw first as well. It can do whatever the miter saw can with maybe a little more setup. I have 2 routers, one on a table and one free hand at all times. Sanders are very important, I would agree I use the compressor least for woodworking, in fact rarely for nailing as I glue everything so there are no marks. I use the compressor mostly for staining, as it does do a great job there.

You're going to find that you're using your miter saw and table saw more than anything on any given project. Besides, unless you're building cabinetry or large furniture pieces, you're wasting money getting an air compressor and brad nailer before you get a miter saw and a table saw. Also pick yourself up a good jig saw as well.

With a table saw and a couple of good blades, you can start woodworking immediately.

Well, at least you are trying, and seem to be headed in the right direction. I have been purchasing a piece of woodworking equipment from time to time for about five years now. Most of it is still in the box because my plans hit a snag, and I still have no decent place to work. Good luck on your venture.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm pretty sure that the only tool I will be running off of a compressor is a nail gun (which I haven't purchased yet). I was thinking about buying a compressor/nail gun package but I will definitely think ahead to possible tools I may add later on before I make that purchase. And definitely good to know about the extension cord! That would be a probable mistake I would have made!

I fully agree that 220v runs cooler, stronger and longer. However for some/most it may not be economical to wire for a 220v compressor. Also a lot of 110v motors can be rewired and operate with 220v making the motor more effecient. May very well be worth looking into when considering most large power tools even. Thank you ShadetreeRet for the addition.

I would recommend one that runs on 220V. They are somewhat more economical to operate, and the motors seem to last longer. Just my observation.
