If it's the one behind the tire under the fender, we call that a "Special Application Battery Service". And we charge $29.99 labor to get that bad-boy in and out for you. But that does also include corrosion protection and a check of the vehicle's charging and starting system while we're at it.

If it is one of the "cab forward" designs, that is a "female dog" to replace the battery. You have to put the car on a lift, remove the left front tire, and inner fender lining, and then you can gain access to the battery. I do not know what Sears will charge, but we charge about an hour's labor for that job, and even at that the technicians hate to do it.

Well your battery needs replacing. I have one that will take a charge but won't hold one, so the unit is useless. Now for the bad news . . I have atken mine apart and can clearly ID the battery but can't find a replacement - so far. You'll probavbly find your loca Sears store won't have a clue. Johnson Controls -they make dieHard batteries for Sears - doesn't make the SCH12-22-3 DieHard that s in the 1150 Booster. I believe if you don't keep one completely charge ALL the time you'll sulphate the battery and lose it. Just a word of warning. I'm still searching for a replacement.

This unit plain out sucks! It claims you can leave it charged all the time as im assuming it has built in overcharge circuitry, however, despite the fact that i leave it plugged in my car using a 12 volt plug, it shows 10%. This unit wasent even 3 months old. Sears told me that i should take it in. I did but they require a reciept to honor the warranty. I got this as a gift so in essence... Im screwed with this unit unless i buy a replacement battery which cost nearly as much as the unit itself brand new.

I'm not familiar with that brand of charger, but from the description you've given, I'd also be partial to #1, although all of them appear to be acceptable. It's an AGM battery, so that would seem to be a logical choice. But presuming this is an automatic charger and will shut itself off, any of the three should work.

The important thing to remember is that the voltage should never rise above 14.8 (14.9?) volts on the Platinum batteries as this can damage some of the internal components within. Standard old-school chargers would often go to 15.5 or even 16.0 volts and these would be completely unsuitable. But if the voltage never goes above 14.6 volts on any of these settings, then you should be ok.

battery charger

Very true and great question.

Most people today never realize all the "stuff" they plug in requires a power source or power outlet to recharge or stay on.. Some buy all these things get home plug in and then months later get a power bill for some ungodly amount..

Upon acquiring a new setup or battery, one needs to charge for at least 3 hours the first time then one or or so afterward. Make sure the battery is fully drained before charging.. Have extras batteries on hand while one set is charging as well.

Many charges simply stay one if kept plugged in.. Best thing to do is acquire a power surge protector with an on off switch.. Some have even calculated the time it takes to recharge a battery and used a "light timer" set for 1 or 2 hours then shuts off automatically.

Just a few things to think about.

I always check reviews before buying a product if I can! I was going to buy this product until researching further. I have been reading up on this product and folks are having a big problem replacing the starter switch on these units after 1 year or less of use. If you look at the Sears online manual for this product, they do not make that replacement part to sell to their customers.I wish you better luck than others have had :-)

If you get "0" volts at the clamps when it's in the charge mode, it's broken. Either the transformer windings have opened or the rectifier went bad. Either way it's not worth repairing when you can buy a new one for $50 or so.

Save your receipts! Obviously you tried to take it back to the store you bought it in and following their advise. Then try taking it into Sears Merchandise Pick Up & Repair area, and see if they can replace the switch, even if it's fixed for a fee. It's better than nothing. I had an item that I bought at Sears, it was out of warranty by 5 months, and Sears still simply exchanged the item after they realized it could not be repaired or the part it need didn't exist. Sears still stands behind their products! Also, I have had things like this repaired at an authorized appliance repair shop. They have the knowledge of how to either get the part or simply use a different starter switch. The engineering behind a starter switch is simple.

I usually check the reviews on a product before buying it, especially after raising four children. After reading the reviews, reading the product's on-line manual in hopes to find the missing part, and I realized the only solution is to hope that an appliance shop or Sears response would be in your favor. In the manual on-line, they list what parts they can replace, and the starter switch is not one of them. I have decided not to buy this item after doing a little research. Hope this helps.

I bought a 'DieHard Portable Power 1150 Jump-Starter/AC-DC Power Source' in December, 2006, because it was on a special sale for $79.99. One of the best decisions I made. I travel a lot in my full size Van and use it almost every night for making coffee, for interior lights, power for my laptop, recharge my cell phone, etc. During the day, it recharges from the cigarette lighter. I don't know if it will start my Van and hope I don't have to find out. It's starting to peter out now because it recharges very quickly. The newer a battery is, the longer it takes to recharge.

Oh, and I don't work for Sears.

old battery

I don't know how things are in your neck of the woods, but around here there are recycling firms that will by old batteries as well as appliances and just about anything that is recyclable. Right now scrap metal is bringing such good prices around here that they are having problems with people stealing air conditioning units foom unoccupied houses as well as copper wire. Check the yellow pages under recycling. Regards, STR.
