I want to purchase a dwell-tachometer to tune up an old car which has a 6 volt ignition system. The store only carried one item but it was only for 12 volt systems. I had a device years ago purchased from Sears. I don't recall if that device was for only 12 volts or 6 and 12. Does Sears still have anything like this?

Your car is not a special case :) Lucky for you that vehicle is what they call a single din size stereo system. Several companies including Scoshe manufacture a wiring harness that will plug into the vehicle factory wiring and allow you to directly connect your new stereo to that automobile. My suggestion is find a decent stereo you like which is single din size (ask the sales people at the store) and then have it installed using that adapter harness. A couple of good replacements for that car are JVC and Panasonic. Few people know this but Panasonic and Fujitsu are the contract manufacturers for Alpine and Clarion and many Japanese cars factory systems including the Infinity and Bose systems. You will find their own stuff quite good and you don't have to spend a ton and listen to a bunch of jive about high end stereo units. Also buy one that plays MP3 files. Money well spent. Don't let anyone fool you around on this install. There is no magic in that car or its wiring. This is a simple and straight forward replacement. Best of luck to you. AE

BUILT IN GPS

You do understand that a GPS/navigation system identifies gas stations, restraunts, stores etc in addition to roadways and these change from time to time as new ones are added or closed? For a gps/navigation system to be accurate and useful, the database needs to be updated. I would recommend that you check to see if the $264 includes updates. Although the Honda will work without any fees, as I said you must pay $200 for an update CD.

In my opinion, the most cost effective and accurate up-to-date GPS system is a cell phone navigation/GPS option. Save $2000 in the cost of the in car version. Plug your cell into the radio and for $120 you'll get accurate up-to date directions. The only disadvantage is if you can't get cell phone sevice in an area, you can't get navigation. Most in car systems use satellites and will work anywhere and are limited only by the data available (that''s to say if the provider has mapped the area.)
