Bamboo & chippers don't go together. Bamboo is the hardest wood known to man and will not only dull the blades but stop the motor buy plugging up the blades.

It should handle green bamboo fine but...............bamboo can get very stringy and will probably plug any chipper on the market.

Old, dry bamboo is very hard and will most likely dull chipper blades quickly.

Check out a kitchen knife.

You'll have dramatically less "edge" left to sharpen - requiring more frequent blade changes.

However, the blades will cut easier during their useful cutting life time.

You have the option of using a Dremel Rotary tool or a large-diameter chainsaw file to produce the scallops.

If you scallop once you are not near the cutting edge. You are reliveing surface area from which cut material (wood) can't experience friction hence more efficient process.

It makes sense.

The only big deal is that sharpening a scalloped blade will always be more challenging than doing single edge sharpening work.

A spare set of blades might prove more useful, than "scalloping" the edges of just one set of blades.

Good news!

The manual to the 247.795950 Chipper/Shredder can be found on the ManageMyLife.com site, for free down-load.

There is no electrical start feature.

The "switch" is there to allow the engine to start and quickly turn it off.

And, just about any of the consumeable parts can be ordered through Sears Parts Direct.com, if you need any.

I believe the electric start for such a product should actually be similar to a snowthrower's electric start, which uses an extension cord to supply the electricity rather than an on-board battery. If you could supply the manufacturer's model number, we could verify this.
