I am having a hard time finding clothes for my husband. He has very broad muscular shoulders but the rest of him is not so large. Plus he has a shorter torso. Every shirt we have tried from K-mart or sears or just about any were else either fits his shoulders but not the rest of him or fits the rest but not his shoulders. Anyone else having this problem? What do you do?

Bless you! I searched searsarchives.com, found a list of libraries that have the Sears catalogs on microfilm, called Hillman Library at Univ. of Pittsburgh (great people), they have it, said to go through local library to order it Interlibrary Loan out of their storage. (whew! what a run-on sentence!) The calls are made and we're in progress. Yea! You did it. When I review the microfilm four miles from my house at the Bedford County Historical Society, assuming it is readable, I'll know if I actually should buy one. This is wonderful. Cross your fingers the process doesn't fail me. Thank you so much.

Thanks for suggestion. Got burned with a private collector selling me the wrong year and now claiming she didn't. Big mess--I'm stuck with a useless to me 1931. Investing not appealing right now, unless I HAVE to. How long until my "new discussion" is on the site? I found you by searching discussion--find.

You can also try checking some big city libraries and college libraries for old Sears catalog scans. Penn State in State College has some stuff but you should call them and ask them what they have.

Here's a webpage with a few scans of women's clothing you can review.

You can also try going to www.searsarchives.com and search for information on where to find old Sears catalogs. If I remember, they list a few book stores and other places to find old Sears catalogs.

Does anyone have a 1935 Spring Sears catalog, the big book? I need to 1)find out if Sears sold women's trousers/slacks that year, and 2)if so, I desparately want to view those pages. Actually, seeing the whole catalog would be fabulous. If I have to buy one, I will, but would prefer not to. Lease for a week?

Quality of material vs. Prices

I do not know if this would be universial at all Sears stores however it is still a little disappointing. This past holiday season, I had purchased a peacoat at Sears thinking that the price was a good deal since peacoats are usually pretty expensive. However, the material was not of best quality and the buttons were barely sewn on and it was suprising to find such low quality clothing apparel at Sears.

Seeing how they have various "celebrity lines" that they run and sell with higher prices (due to the name), I am questioning now whether or not the average prices of their clothing is worth shopping their or not.

Granted, most consumers want to spend the least amount as possible for an item, in order to save money, however if quality is affected so much that it limits the longevity of the item, that is counterproductive.

BoyCott Kardasian Line

Well they LOOK hip and trendy from the pictures on line, but from the comments I'm reading the quality must be terrible. I still haven't gone into the store to actually look at the clothing line items so I can't say exactly say how good or bad it is, but seeing the comments a lot of people are writing it must be horrible. I can only say how they LOOK from pictures. That's a shame. Looks and pictures can be deceiving. The styles don't look like they would be for mature older women, from the pictures online it looks like it's for women that are the Kardashian sisters' ages, not much older. And I have to agree with Civsci, Sears has to do what makes good business sense. The company is in business to make money. The Kardashians had to be paid big for licensing fees and other fees related to the use of their name and their input, or else they wouldn't have agreed to the deal. Sears has to try to recoup their investment. However, if the clothing line stays on the racks with nobody buying, no profit for Sears or the Kardashians, then it will be gone.

By throwing thousands of dollars in already fabricated merchandise to the trash?

That wouldn't even be reasonable business sense. Sears probably hasn't even recouped what it already paid the Kardashians in licensing fees.

I previously said in another thread those who completely boycott Sears instead of buying a competing clothing line at Sears are giving voting power to the K fans who are buying those clothes. Sears measures clothing sales by percentages. If the collection contributes to say, 60% of all clothing sales, regardless of the nonfactorable 19 consecutive quarters of general sales declines, that to Sears would translate that the line is popular and what it's current generation of buying customers want. By boycotting all products you relinquish say in the company's shift.

BoyCott Kardasian Line

I refuse to shop there till the line is pulled and Sears has been my family's store to shop in for over 30 years. I will be more than disappointed if Sears like Tyler Perry refuses to stop selling their products. There are many more stores out there and with the growing amount of boycotters, Sears will feel the resentment. Lets hope they make the right choice for their investors and their customers.

Hip and Trendy? Everything about these clothes has an old and cheap feel to it. All of it looks like it would be at home in a trailer park.
