LockedMisleading "Sales" Wasted My Time on Sears.com

posted on December 04, 2009 at 02:49PM Inappropriate?

I went to sears.com to order some work clothes, since I never seem to have time to go to the actual store. Clicked thru to Mens Pants, found GREAT sale prices on Dockers, which is what I wanted! I happily filled my "Shopping Cart" with several pairs. Amazingly, (unlike the stores), I got 3 different colors in my exact size & preferred styles! AND, they were priced super-low, (about HALF off!!). So I even bought 2 of some colors. Even BETTER, there was an additional $2.25 taken of each pair as I added them to my "Cart"!  AND, the side-bar announced Free Shipping on orders over $39!! WOW, I was getting a STEAL!  Another sidebar offered a pair of Black Diamond Earrings for $29 if my online order was over some minimal amount. FANTASTIC!  So I put those in the cart as a stocking stuffer for my girlfriend!  Okay! Proceed to Checkout, after noting the Subtotal showed I was saving about $40 on my order!! I LOVE SEARS! (And I do, BUT)- Checkout button popped up a big red box, saying that only ONE (1) of each item that I had 2 of, could be shipped in my order!  So, I had to modify the order, and the "Options" button gave me the following 3 choices, (NONE of which were acceptable to me): Remove the item from my order, (not 1, but all of that item); or Request an eMail notice whenthe item is back in stock; or miss out on the Free Shipping, and get a major headache fighting holiday crowds to Pick up Order in-store. Okay, didn't want to delete the items altogether, so I tried the email notice, thinking I could buy now, and get the back-ordered item when it came in. Nope, just a promise to send me a note when they have more in stock, (no rain check, so I would then pay twice the price, and get no free shipping, and no deal on the earrings). Okay, forget that, now I choose option 3, (buy online, pick-up in store). Had to back out of checkout, then click the Pick Up button on each item. Then hit checkout button, only to have the 3 nearest stores to my home all show "Item not in stock at this store", for EVERY item in my cart!! Now tell me, was this entire "Sale" a bogus lure to get me in and shopping for other items, as well?  WHY did it let me go through the entire process of selecting Waist size, Inseam length, Color, Style, Quantity, then get to Checkout before telling me, "SORRY, We don't have ANY of the stuff you just put in your cart, and we will further torture you by posing several "Option" paths for you to venture down, NONE which will result in you being able to purchase any of the items you so carefully selected".  Arrrgghhh!!!  Not a case of someone clicked the Checkout button before me, as I can now go back thru the whole process 3 hours later!! STOP THIS!! WHY did it show some colors & sizes as not available, but MINE were, and STILL can't be purchased?  WHY do this to us, your loyal, SEARS CARD carrying customers?? JUST DON'T DO THAT!! PLEASE!! (Sorry to yell, but I went through this entire time-consuming process TWICE), along with all the "Options" you gave me to (not) work around the minor issue of not having the advertised items available.  Why can't you accept back-orders, and ship when the products come in? I am dumbfounded that Sears would do this, I see NO good that can come from it! NONE!! I'd almost think a competing firm hired some hackers to do this to sears.com, to frustrate your customers and force us to the competition! Needless to say, I wasted over an hour of my time, and now write this in hopes that either someone can explain the idiocy of what I experienced, or at least remove the whole bogus sale facade that mislead me, (and countless others, I am sure). I cancelled out the sale, and on the way out, I saw a SUPER deal on Levis Jeans! (My FAVORITE clothes of all time!). WOW, they were HALF PRICE!! I just GOTTA buy some NOW!  What's this? FREE SHIPPING?  :)  Oh, oooh, that's right, I think I already fell for a nearly identical scam just a little while ago...  I would have loved to buy 5-6 pairs of them, but I don't have any more time to waste... Please, Sears, fix this. Please?

Thanks for the post, LoneStarJim.  You have included some excellent points in there.  Sears is always looking for feedback from their customers on the online ordering system.  I will pass this along to some Sears folks to make sure they hear your thoughts and frustrations!
