Right, I know the policy, just saying we should be able to use another form of payment...like a debit card. Even if it is charged as credit, seeing is how we dont offer a Sears card to all employees.

The policy is the same online as in-store. However, debit doesn't work online like it does in-store, because it must be processed as a credit card. Obviously, cash or check wouldn't be viable unless it was a web-to-register sale in-store. Otherwise, it's gift cards or Sears cards.

Employees need to be able to use their discount on line without all the hassle. If we dont "qualify" for a Sears credit card, we have to go buy sears giftcards to get our discount... when we make an account we should be able to sign on to our account (if purchased through our account) and get our discount. A lot of employees would spend more money in Sears if you made this easier.

jjjeee said…

What I would change about KMart.... hire people to work departments and teach them about the products within those departments so that they can actually HELP the customers. I just spent 25 min. of my life on hold with Kmart while calling to see if an item was in store. I saw the product online, but online there is no indication as to whether or not it is also available in store (this really needs to be addressed), I was deliberately TRYING to NOT spend my money at Wal-Mart. But honestly KMart, you have not made if worth my effort. No one on the phone knew what I was talking about, I got two "huh" responses and spoke to literally 5 different people, all of whom I had to start over with from scratch! Two of the people I spoke to who went to troll for the product never bothered to come back to the phone!! What is the problem here? I am in retail management, and I can tell you that the problem is poor management, low expectations, and overall job dissatisfaction. KMart, wake up!!!! There are lots of people out there that would like to see you survive and who do not want to give their money to the big "W".....why are you making it so hard? Clean up your stores, create some programs that will boost your employee morale - teach them, expect things from them- otherwise your employees will stay the way they are or get worse! it's just like parenting, if you dont instill value, personal accountability and responsibility, and pride in your kids (employees) they will be unproductive, unmotivated people! Remove underperforming amangers from their posts and get fresh blood in there to clean up these stores!

I think the problem is too much turnover, not bad employees. High turnover rates leads to skimpier training and less expierenced employees at lower pay rates. If they cut 13 peoples pay by 1$ an hr, they can afford another new employee to help out. If we didnt live in an economy with hard to find jobs, and a large volume of people not working where they want to, turn over would be better. Most people look for some easy job they can get while they wait for interviews with their real career choice in mind.

My children's school uniform is business casual. They may wear pants with 4 pockets 2 front 2 back, They may wear sweaters without any design, Logos on shirt may be no more than 1 inch by 1 inch. They can wear corduroys but not jeans. Most of the other pants available had the cargo pockets, which they cannot have. When I was shopping for the uniforms, I found most collared shirts (Polo's) had too large a logo or a design) Most of the (dress type) shirts for the kids, had designs on them. They can wear long sleeve collared shirts, we are having a hard time as they choose not to wear Sunday best dress shirts to school, but still need to wear long sleeved collared shirts. What happened is I ended up at the local uniform shop, because I could not find enough non uniform clothing to meet the kids needs.

I think that sears and kmart both need to focus on better sizing for clothes. For myself I can only buy tops at both. 2 reasons, I am petite but I am a size zero. I cannot shop in petites because the sizes are not small enough. I refuse to shop in Juniors because I am 35 years old and have no real need to wear most of the pants that the kids wear. All of the juniors dress pants must be hemmed so now I am adding the cost and need of my time to the ants to get them hemmed, therefore no longer a good value for the dollar. Just a thought, but realistically to expand your available sizing would grab the customers who have to shop at high priced retailers to obtain the sizing needed.

Sears despirately needs to get a handle on their repair service!! I used to own all kenmore appliances, stove refrig, freezer, dish washer, clothes washer and dryer. Thanks to their repair services I now own frigidare!! When they went to subcontractors doing the service the repairs were terrible. they miss appointments then when they do show up they dont have a clue how to repair the item. they always have to order parts which are not only the wrong parts they ane generic or made in china instead of genuine sears parts. The last few times I required service I opted to do them myself and guess what, sears does carry the correct parts, not the junk their service people tried to pawn off as acceptable!! Also when sears ran their own service department the repair person looked like someone you would trust in your house, professional clean apperance, not some part timer who looks like a refugee from a Hells Angel gang that hadent shaved or bathed in the past month I think the best thing sears could do for their customers is to do inhouse repairs with a quality and DUMP the subcontractors.

I think it is safe to say that as a Michigan Resident, Kmart was my families destination for discount shopping in the early 1980's through the early 90's, but with the presence of Target and Walmart we have been drawn to seek out these stores first. As a degreed Interior Designer, I believe the biggest factor in making people want to shop at Kmart more frequently would be to change the overall appearance and perception of this retailer. Kmart does offer great product at a wonderful price, but Target offers this,in addition to an upscale merchandising experience. Somehow the uniquely merchandised endcaps, and the aroma of Starbucks coffee makes us think we are in a department store of sorts. But conversly, Kmart offers harsh flourescent lighting, bargin bins, and the smell of cheap popcorn and pretzels. The point I am driving home is that these other discount retailers like Target offer a shopping experience and Kmart falls short of this..I don't find myself lingering in Kmart after I locate my toothpaste and toilet paper, but at Target I am lured into buying sensless nonsense because I get caught up in the experience. And I would love to see Kmart rebound from the loss of popularity, I am rooting for this underdog...but they need to maximize their strengths and create a reason for this to be a destination again.

Thanks for your suggestions, Ozark! A few people have mentioned women's clothes here and I wonder if you could say a little more about the types of clothes you'd like to see? Do you want more career-related items? Casual? Is it a matter of color selection? Fabrics? I know it depends on a lot of things, but if you could share some of your thoughts, that would be great!

I think I would like it if they had a better selection of clothes for women. All of their clothes look like old lady clothes and are not well priced. Target and Jcpenny's have better clothes for my age. I just want clothes that I can afford and that look nice and don't cost so much, Oh and that last. Plus I would like a wide range of sizes and styles. I am not petite and I'm not 15.

I gave up shopping for shoes at the Sears at Ford City Shopping Center. I have a wide width, and it was almost impossible for me to find anything in my size. The only good thing there is the optical department. Even when I go to Chicago Ridge or Orland Square, it is a hit or miss deal to find shoes in my size.

As far as K-Mart, a lot that I have shopped in seem to be disorganized, with merchandise everywhere. I do not like the shoes there. I have been able to occasionally find Just My Size bras in my style and size there. I wish they had them available in the Sears stores.

I think they should let the customers put computers in layaway. That would be awesome for me.

I shop in a KMart in Elmwood Park NJ. There are 2 floors. The clothes are on the second floor. There are never any sales people there at all!! If you are lucky you can find someone at the jewelry counter sometimes. (And checkout is an exasperating experience). You have to know what you want and where to find it yourself.

Also, I am of the age when my upper arms are not attractive. I used to get great summer tops in K Mart. Now forgetaboutit.! All the summer tops have very short cap sleeves. KMart needs a new buyer in womens' clothes. The selection is really awful now .

I think the k-mart by me is a extremely under staffed. You always wait in line, generally they have 1 cashier open. It is a sad state of affairs when you have a line to ring out at the only regiter and at customer service. I left neither was worth my waiitng in, I left and went to the other k-mart in my area and had multiple registers with no lnes. So consistent management from store to store would be a start, and employ more people.

I have shopped at Kmart for years and I remember years ago if the cashier didn't say thank you for shopping at Kmart you got your purchase free or something free. I went to the local Kmart recently and I am the one saying thank you to them and they don't say anything back ... just a look... that's it. I will still shop at this Kmart, it's clean yes even the restrooms, there are no clothes on the floor, things are quite organized. I think they should go back to saying thank you for shopping at Kmart, but I believe a lot of America has gotten further away from appreciating the customer and it shows in a lot of stores not just Kmart. I have never had a problem with anyone or anything at Sears in Knoxville and will keep shopping at both.

GospelGal said…
I would love to switch to Kmart from Walmarts for my shopping needs. But Kmarts doesn't have too many of those scooters that Walmarts has. I need one of them to do my shopping in. Also, the isles in Kmart is so much wider and free of clutter not like Walmart. I live right in the middle of both at the moment. Soon, I'll live closer to Kmart. The parking lot at K has a lot to be desired. It's like an upside down U shape, and it's darn hard to get around in or get close to the front door. I have the handicap card but K doesn't have near as many disabled parking spots as Walmart does. Another thing, K has focused on its clothing line, and everything else is pick and choose. If I have to go to several different places to get what I need when one has everything, then I'll end up going to just that one in this case Walmart. It's to bad that K can't be a one stop place for all my shopping needs the way it used to be way back when. I had hoped that when Sears took over that the over all quality and products would improve-that I would get more bang for my buck.

Hi GospelGal, thanks for you valuable feedback! Can you tell me more about the kinds of products you're looking for at Kmart? Thanks!

I don't know how they stay in business. I don't know how they compete with Wal-Mart.They are very pricy. I look at the adds and I can buy everything cheaper at Wal-Mart.Paper goods, Pet foods, Cleaning supplies etc. When Sears took over I thought great now they will get a new line of clothing in,shoes, under garments, etc. The only thing they brought in is the appliances.I do like the Martha Stewart products but again pricy. I can buy nice at Kohl's for alot less.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kmart buy Sears?

i believe technically they merged into the SHC tho kmart 2 shares of the new stock for one share of theirs so most people assume kmart bought sears
