Hi Marcbr4,

The best deals are found on-line or by email, you can go to craftsman.com/club and enter your email. The best deals don’t even require a coupon! These deals are during Craftsman Club Saver Days where we offer special member-only pricing for one week each month on-line and in-store.

The next Club Saver Days are 3/11/12 to 3/17/12.

Hope this helps!

Problem with Craftsman Digital MultiMeter Model 82141

Have you ever used a multimeter before? Is your water heater an electric water heater, and are you saying you are trying to test the heating element? Did you turn off the power to your water heater before you did anything?

It is difficult to figure out what is wrong without being there with you. The manual for the meter you mentioned is posted on Sears.com. One of the things the manual points out is the meter will give a reading of one if it is on the wrong setting. Which setting do you have the meter set to?

If you do not know what you are doing it can be dangerous to handle these things if you do not know what you are doing. You might consider hiring a trained professional rather than risk personal injury and/or damage to your home.

Problem with Craftsman Digital MultiMeter Model 82141

I purchased a 82141 multimeter. My water heater is on the blink and I need to test the continuity of the elements. The manual says to put the black lead in the COM and the red lead in the "omega" ports.

When you put the switch on the "continuity" setting, the meter reads 1 (open circuit) which I would expect. However, when you cross the red and black leads together, the meter should read close to zero and the audible alarm should go off ... my meter stays on 1 when I cross the leads and no alarm.

So my wife took the meter back to the Sears store and they gave her another 82141 meter. I repeated the above procedure ... same results.

Am I doing something wrong or is the meter defective (2 in a row)? Are the directions in the manual wrong?

Any advice will be appreciated ... I am very close to asking for my money back and buying from Home Depot.

Thanks,

Tom

Thanks to you both! My son has taken very good care of it and I think I mentioned that it has run much less than 10 hours. We started it up yesterday and all systems are fine - it's so easy to start (much better than the first generator my DH purchased which was full crank).....this thing runs like a dream. Makes me wonder why I went to he expense of adding the Guardian System - but I'm getting older and think this was the best route for me - and someone will get an almost new portable for a pretty good price it appears.

thanks again.

Going a bit further, as Madgolfer indicated, if it has had gas in the tank and has not been started for some time, it would be well to attempt to start it. If necessary, it may be wise to clean the fuel system, if you are mechanically inclined or know someone who is. If it will start and run properly, it will sell quicker, and be worth much more.

Hi Pooh, today in New England with a million power outages 3 days after a storm it's priceless. New, in the box $1000. If it was left with gas in the tank for 2 years and the battery wasn't maintained it may be worth less than half of that. Hope this helps.

I had a drill that had the same issue. Not this exact drill but one that I used a few times and just died. Ended up being a bad trigger switch. Fixed it and it worked fine ever since.

If it's only been used 4 or 5 times in three years, it probably means the cells in your battery were discharged below zero as it sat on a shelf and can no longer hold a charge. That is a standard problem wth ni-cd batteries no matter what the brand, make, or manufacturer. If they're not used for a long period of time, the energy can discharge in the cells to at or below it's zero level causing the chemical reactions in the cells to die and they can no longer hold a charge. To keep a ni-cd battery lasting at optimum efficiency and for it's longest life, put in on a charge overnight once a month.
