Back orders are only possible if the manufacturer allows for them. On a product like you're describing, they do not do individual orders, and thus would not offer this as an option. Most, if not all, items are not eligible for backordering. Even appliances (and when they are, it's only for extremely large numbers of orders, and only when it's been negotiated between the corporate offices and the manufacturer). Without knowing if the vendor plans to continue manufacturing the product, and for how long if so, it's not realistic to set up a back order that may never materialize, which would tie up your money for potentially weeks, or months, with nothing to show for it.
However, you do have the option to have sears.com notify you via e-mail when/if the product becomes available again.
