The Woods of Westminster (WoW is their marketing theme) is north of the ski hill but a similar mountain. The ninth hole was a 340 yard snowtubing trail. Nice views and foliage. A tip: uphill holes mean an uphill green and vice versa. Try the local Wachusett Blueberry Ale with lunch ;P

Hi Madgolfer! How did you know! :)

I've been skiing at Wachusett... is it the same course? The mountain itself is pretty amazing so I can imagine how the golf course would be in the summer!

Thank you both for the advice!

Oh Courtney, you're just baiting me aren't you? Well, if you get back here sometime, the first course you need to play with your dad is the Woods of Westminster, out Rte 2 overlooking Mt Wachusett. Weekdays, 38 bucks includes a cart and lunch at the turn. My favorite course. Also Billerica CC has had a face lift and played well this week. And Marlboro CC is open to the public Monday and Tuesdays, a little pricy but very pristine.

I agree with Jeff above about golf shirts etc, and the dockers golf pants are great but Sears was wise to get out of the equipment business. Seems anytime I see clubs at Sears Essentials, they are priced for closeout.

The Chicago area is blessed with some very nice courses and facilities. However, we are not blessed with the best weather, b/c you can only realistically play about 5 months out of the year.

My recommendations for Chicago include Cog Hill in the Chicago Southwest suburbs. Probably the best public practice facilities and value for your money!

On a side note, Sears.com needs to increase the selection of golf merchandise. This Spring, I would have easily spent money at Sears.com on golf gloves, golf balls, tees, etc.

I also think their is space for a discount golf apparel section as well, that can serve as an alternative to expensive Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, and other sporting goods stores. Great brand to carry would be Izod.
