Here is the link to the manual, just copy and paste in your web browser:

http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/7725/CRAFTSMAN-Line-Trimmers-Weedwackers-Electric-L0807116?brand_name_search=74545

Directions for changing spool are on page 20. You can reline the existing spool or make it easy and just replace it with a prewound one. I'd suggest the ladder.....

I just bought a gas Craftsman Blower/Vac the larger of the 2 and got it home to put it together and found it very hard to put together. The parts did not slide together easily or twist well. It was a fight to put together and I have decided to return it. I also held it all set up and it did not feel comfortable to hold when vac is on, I thought it might be too weird with the heat from the motor and resting it on myself. I am suer it works well but I can not fight with my tools before using them.

Hi lawncare, if you mean the 2-cycle gas powered one, a word of caution. Resist the urge to run it wide open for any length of time. Short bursts of 10-15 seconds will help the engine cool and last longer. Probably true for the electric motor units too. Thanks for shopping at Sears.

Re: Stihl power heads and Ryobi/Craftsman attachements. Based on what I read here, they are interchangable. I have about 4 attachments, 1 Ryobi gas PH, 1 Craftsman PH, and 1 Ryobi electric power head.

I wanted a Stihl powerhead for more power/lighter weight (I have attached a ECHO 0.095" head that is hard to drive), but they make you buy at least 1 attachment with it, thereby making it unaffordable.

New Trimmer advice

Take a look at the Craftsman models 79115 and 79120.

They both have a 33cc full crank 2 cycle engine with spring assisted easy start and the option to use the included electric starting mechanism or the accessory drill bit starter as well for the easiest starting possible.

Both include the single fixed line head known as the Craftsman Hassle Free Head. Just pop one of the extra thick lines in and go. No winding, spooling, or bumping required. I can get through my yard and my next door neighbor's yard in one piece of the heavy duty line so you're not changing it all that often either.

Both have twist and edge capability when you flip the head as well as take the optional convertible attachments so if you ever wanted to make edging really easy, you could purchase the 7" metal bladed edger attachment to run on your machine.

The Craftsman 79115 is the curved shaft model and runs $129.99 on sale and the Craftsman 79120 is the straight shaft model and runs $159.99 on sale. If you were planning on getting it soon, tomorrow is Friends & Family night at most Sears in the U.S. between 6 and 9pm so you'd receive an extra 10% off the sale prices of either of the trimmers and any accessories for them.

the only thing I've found is that the ryobi shafts on the attachments are slightly bigger in diameter than the craftsman and it's a tight fit. But it will fit

Im going to go buy two troy-Bilt straight shaft trimmers i saw on craigs List for $50.00 they also come with attachments. a small snow blower, a pole saw, cultivator and i think a hedge trimmer. I was told one machine runs fine, the other only runs on starting fluid (carb rebuild is in its future) they are both 4-cycle but in reading reviews on them, supposedly the troy bilt 4 cycles are junk with tons of problems soooo... long story short. if I buy them just for the attachments,,,, I can get a new Craftsman and use these on it? what about getting a craftsman curved shaft trimmer and sticking the troy bilt's straight shaft on it?? is this possible?

No, unfortunately you can't change for a thicker line on this one. It just takes a careful hand when cutting against a fence or concrete to conserve line and make it last longer.

There are two tabs on the spool housing that you pinch to remove it.

Trimmer 172.745450

I would like to know if it is possible to change the spool in this trimmer to one with thicker line. It eats up line like there is no tomorrow and I usually have to reload less than half way through my yard (Very small yard) I have never liked this model since day one due to this problem. I can not even figure out how to remove the part that holds the spool. Thank you in advance for any help.

Ryobi attachments on Craftsman Trimmers

Hi beaaudarvil,
I also have Ryobi yard tools! I love them! What do you need too know? What has given up? Do you know that your local hardware ctr carries spare perts under a diff brand name? I found a few attachments I needed there. Just bring the part you need replaced with you and match it up to the other guys. I have a weed-wacker combo edger and blade, electric. It just keeps working! A part wears out and I replace it and move on to the next project.
