Hi peanut62, it could be one of the safety switches, maybe the one for blade engagement under the hood. If you have 12 volts across the black and white wires on the solenoid with the key on, or hear the solenoid click then it is operating properly. As Lightsaber pointed out, the tractor has a 2 year warranty. Good luck.

If the mower is still under warranty, you might want to have the warranty people troubleshoot and fix it!

Otherwise see the owners manual page 28 at web address below, copy and paste to address bar at top of screen and click the go button!

http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L1005514.pdf

Most likely an ignition switch or wiring problem, but you will need to troubleshoot switch and wiring with schematic at below web address to be sure! It gets expensive to change parts without knowing what the problem really is.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Riding-mower-tractor-Parts/Model-917289220/0247/1509200/P0905020/00011?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

Does the ignition switch shut the engine off like it should?

I have a YTS 3000 less than a year old. The starter will not engage when the key is turned to start. If you use a screw driver to touch both contacts on the solenoid, the starter will engage. I have replaced the solenoid but the problem still exits. I am sitting on the seat and the brake pedal is fully depressed. The transmission lever is in the nuetral position. Starting this lawn tractor have become a 2 person act..

Normal car tire pressure gauges won't work, you need a low pressure gauge that can read something like seven pounds, and fourteen pounds. Mower tire pressure is usually different from front tires to the back tires, and should be noted on the tire sidewall.

I will have to check that tomorrow evening. I highly doubt that is the problem because it is a brand new mower unless they were improperly inflated. I have not tried that. Where the grass is cut unevenly the grass isn't cut as low and almost looks like it was missed by the blades.

Did you check the condition of the belt while you worked on it? Usually if a drive belt comes off, there is something under there that caused the issue. Belt is worn or damaged, belt guides damaged, idler pulley damaged (usually a plastic pulley), or foriegn debris jammed up under your mower frame. Just some things to look for if you have this issue again...

Start by checking the drive belt. Under the engine there are two belts, the bottom one drives the blades and the upper belt drives the transmission. There are other possibilities but this is where you start. Good luck.

Hi Duckman, thanks for using MySears. If the transmission is engaged then the drive belt may be broken. There are 2 belts on the tractor, one drives the blades and another above it that drives the rear axle.
