LockedCannot p/u item after paid off!!!!!!!!!!

Be aware that if you place an item on layaway at Sears and it is not in stock at the store, they do NOT pull it from inventory for you when you open your layaway. I went to the Alderwood store in Lynnwood, WA on 11/06 excited to pay off my TV and pick it up. I was then informed that I would have to wait to pick up my tv on 11/11, because that is when the next warehouse shipment is scheduled to the store. I have basically put down close to $900 for an item I cannot pickup almost a week later. That is if I can get someone with a vehicle to transport the tv to my house. So be very careful if you put an item on layaway that is sitting in the warehouse and not the store. You will be at the mercy of the warehouse shipment schedule after you have completed your purchase. Pay off a layaway for Christmas presents the week of Christmas, you might not be able to pick them up until the week after Christmas!!!!!

And no, I was not informed of this when I opened the layaway.

Was your lay-a-way originally due to be finished on 11/06?

Or, does the lay-a-way period end after 11/11 - on paper?

Hi AdamO

I see what you are getting at...No I paid the layaway off early by about 2 weeks. But my problem is with the fact that Sears policy is not to pull the layaway item from inventory to make sure it is on hand immedidately. I also feel it necessary that customers be told if an item is not in stock when they place it on layaway. As it gets closer to Christmas I see this as a potential problem if one is not aware that their product may not be available for pickup if they pay it off early.

Was the lay a way done online or did you start it in the store?

Keep in mind that for most major appliances Sears does not carry them in "stock" -- most of them are delivery from the warehouse.

Sears can deliver to your house -- but standard delivery charges will apply.

Also bear in mind that storing all those layaway items requires a good bit of storage space.

Most stores do not have the warehouse space to accomodate all the items that are placed on layaway by all their customers.

The stores work closely with their local warehouse supplier to have the inventory at the proper place, at the proper time.

Can you see how having a huge stack of large inventory items in a store warehouse could have a very big impact on traffic and availability of local merchandise?

With "the truck" ready to deliver the big TV on 11/11 for a pickup, not due, for almost two weeks is a pretty good use of space and resources.

It is FANTASTIC that you were able to get all the lay-a-way money together as fast as you did.

I'm sure the store will get that TV available to you ASAP.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the reponses! :)

I actually was able to get the TV the next day!! I checked online and and it was shown as being in stock at the store, so I called them again and they did in fact have it in the back. (Not sure what the problem was the day before)

Absolutely love, love, love this TV. I have to give a HUGE pat on the back to Jason in Electronics at the Lynnwood, Wa store at Alderwood Mall. He is a customer service master.

Thanks again everyone!!

Hooray!  Thanks for letting us know that everything worked out.  I hope you take a moment and head to www.searsfeedback.com.  This is a short survey that will let Sears know about your experience, along with giving kudos to the sales associate who helped you.  You will just need a code on your receipt.

Have fun with your new TV!

Hope anybody with a snowthrower on layaway is reading this. The snowthrower to fill your order is held at a distribution center and is released for shipping to the store when it is paid in full, which can take 2 or 3 days to arrive.

DO NOT WAIT TIL IT SNOWS TO PAY OFF A SNOWTHROWER LAYAWAY BALANCE

BEWARE OF THEIR LAYWAY..... PLEASE READ.. Do not go by their Automated Phone system... here is my story!

I was very excited to utilize your Layway program to purchase a $1,000 big screen TV.  I made my $660 in payments and decided to get it out 2 weeks early.  The last day to make my payment was on 03/19/10 for this payment, I was going to go in on Friday after work and make a double payment and pick my TV up on the 20th, I received an Automated phone call from Sears that said I had until the 20th to make my payment, so I decided to go ahead and just pay it on the 20th instead of making two trips.  I arranged to have my Dad come up to take me to pick up the TV (he has a truck) and when I get there, they tell me it has been cancelled by corporate.  I said you all called me and said that I had until today to make the payment and I want to go ahead a pay it off, I said do you still have the TV, they said yes.  I said will just credit my $660 and I pay you the $400, they said they can't because Corporate will be sending out a check to me.  I don't want a check, I want my TV, they said sorry you got to call them.  I say ok, then since this is the last TV you have of this model, can you put it back on layaway, and then when I get the check in from Sears I will just cash it come in and pay for it.  They said sure we can do that, I then got the corporate number so that I could find out how long it would take to get my money back.  I call and I try to explain, only to get cut off from her, saying you broke the contract, and your payment will be refunded in 7-10 days.. I said yes my payment was a day late, but only becuase your automated system said I had until the 20th, then I am told that there will be a 15% restocking fee deducted from my check.. So I am going to be charged $150 for a TV that never even was put back into stock, because, I rebought.. This is wrong, I only went the extra day because Sears told me I had the extra day, I made all of my other payments per term and all she could say is "well there is nothing you can do about it", well yes there is, I will tell everyone I know about how awful Sears is.. and I was going to purchase a Fridge next, then a washer and dryer, but it won't be from Sears now!!!  If I didn't want that TV, I would have went elsewhere, Sears has gotten their last $1,049.00 from me.  Oh and also, no where on your Layway form does it say, refunds of layway payments can't be made at the store, and that you have to wait 7-10 days for your payment, had they been able to just issue out my refund, I could have paid the difference and had my TV home today!!!
