Can an item be ordered via catalog and then placed on lay-a-way?

posted on January 13, 2010 at 08:32PM

The item that you wish to place on lay-a-way has to be in stock in the store, no HFM orders (from warehouse to store). But you do have the option to place a sears.com order and do the lay-a-way process there rather than in the store.

There is a $5.00 lay-a-way fee, and then you need to put 20% of the total down. You have 8 weeks to pay it off (payment must be in the form of cash. check, or sears gift card.),in bi-weekly payments.

Also, if you cancel your lay-a-way there is a $10.00 cancelation fee.

Hope that helps!

Can you have more then one layaway online account at the same time.

I'm not quite sure of that answer, but if you contact sears.com via email or phone call they would have that answer..

Why are some things eligible and others are not?  It certainly has nothing to do with how cheap or expensive the item is....case in point, the $699.00 Pentax dslr camera kit I want to get . For some odd reason it can't be put on layway, yet a $150.00 ring I'm also interested in can. They're both sold at Sears ( not from any of the partners ) and other dslr outfits have a layaway option yet this one doesn't . Needless to say, this makes no sense whatsoever and I'm really curious to as to why  you have such an uneven haphazard policy.

Can you lay away sofas?

For information on the Sears Layaway Program, go to sears.com.  Enter "layaway" in the search box, then clck on "Learn More".  Specifically, laptops and sofas would be included, if in store and in stock.

I can't seem to locate any items that can be placed on layaway via online.  How do you find these items?

Sears has annoucned that they will now accept Layaway order for large home applainces starting May 01.  I have heard that this process was done years ago and it was discontinued because of huge inventory problems at stores and now it is being brought back to Home Applainces Dept.

What is the marketing reasoning to re visit this process when it did not work well in this dept prior? Does this layway offering include K Mart stores and Hometown stores also other than Brand Central and Essentials stores?

thanks

Lay away is a good way to generate cash equity, with out all the overhead associated with selling items. For people who cant purchase it out right, layaway means another sale, whether or not it costs more in the long run, sales mean advertising and advertising means profit.

In a world where we bail out the crooks and fat cats who lost at monopoly, (also our goverment) I dont think we have to worry too much about the cost of a program of this size.

Improvements in the inventory and distribution processes have allowed us to move forward with layaway for home appliances.  This financing option will differentiate us from our competitors.  Layaway is available at Sears full line stores, as well as Essentials, Grands, Sears Hometown stores and Sears appliances inside a Kmart store.
