Hi JcBecker, from the sounds of it and how you described, it looks like your Door Switch went out and needs to be replaced. This has also been verified by another microwave forum. This is something a technician should do. Microwaves are not good do-it-yourself projects. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. Hope this helps! :)

Microwave Room Venting Help

I recently remodeled my kitchen, which moved my kenmore micro from an exterior wall that allowed for outside venting to an interior wall. I now need to use room venting, but have a few questions that the manual does not really cover.

Should the fans continue to point straight back rather than up?

Should there be more than just the mounting bracket clearance between the micro and wall? The fan is basically just blowing against the wall. Seems pointless and is much louder.

Can the fan be disabled? Is it necessary? I never use it for stove top cooking.

Any suggestions or tips on this type of installation?

Thank you in advance!

Mark

Thanks for the response. The wife will not be happy. Finding the short may be near impossible and throwing $80 bucks at it just for it to blow again is not an action that I am willing to do. Something odd is that the Display still reads HIGH, NIGHT & OFF and it still beeps when you push the Light button. This might suggest that the relay is still ok but a short does still exists.

Live without the light -- most likely the light relay on the board (PART NUMBER: 6871W1S128A for $79.00) is bad. Changing the fuse wouldn't correct that, and you still probably have the short that knocked out the light in the first place...

I own a 2003 Model 721.62642200. When i turned on the over stove light there was a pop and the lights went out. Both bulbs were blown and the Circuit Breaker in the House was shut off. I switched the Circuit Breaker back on and replaced the bulbs. No light. I checked for power to the bulb socket with a vol-con tester. No juice. Went to the Parts Direct and found a $ 3.50 fuse somewhere in the unit. The Microwave, fan and turntable continue to work. Hood light does not. Should I get a new fuse 3B74133K? OR live without the light?

From what I read its a failed inverter (NPN, PNP) and not worth your time to fix when you could call for service. Have them change the inverter, magnetron, and test it for the proper direct current. Its possible the technician will need a pair of hands to get it off the wall and re-hang it unless the lifting tool is on his truck. Ask him questions at the time of service to learn about the valued product because that is worth the effort and time for both of you.

Don't let peoples comments intimidate you or allow the technician an advantage over the customer. Your machine has 0 Voltage unplugged. There is of course a capacitor that needs to be discharged properly on the inside of the machine once its opened up. I am not suggesting to tackle this project with no knowledge of electricity, but to discharge a capacitor you simply need a screw driver with a rubber handle. There are other ways to discharge it as well; however, its very possible this is not even the issue.

The voltage present when the microwave is operating is 3000to4000 volts, this is deadly and you should NOT be screwing around with an Microwave when you don't know what you are doing! Many people are killed or severly injured every year messing around with electricity.

My kenmore elite microwave did not last seven years, is that the norm? First it was the loner time to heat up the contents and then it just went kapook! I can't believe I'm the only one where this has happened. Model # 721-64689300

I had company the other night and had to warm up 6 different plates at once was not sure it could do it but it did and there was still room to spare in the microhood .The other one I would have to only do half and then they would not heat evenly .My company was also really impressed by the chimes as they are all retired also and all of them said how the beeping noise on there's gets on there nerves .The chimes and space in it and the even heating are the best I have seen in awhile

Right now I'm very pleased with the microhood and the chimes are much more pleasant to the ears than that load beeping the other one had .It is large enough for every thing I need to heat at once .I cannot believe all the room this thing has and it heats 4 different things at the same time and gets them all hot .
