It's not just on line that doesnt care about the customer. I was told a few days ago to forgo a tool purchase until friday after Thanksgiving. I've never been a sale person but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Well, today was the big day, silly, but I was actually a little excited about "Saleing" on "Black Friday" Heheheh.

Walked in, picked up the air ratchet I've been waiting for, waited my turn in a much to long line, I thought, and paid for my prize. Full price, my cashier didnt bat an eye that I had been told it would be on sale. I would have bought it at full price any other day and I cant put off my project any longer, so done deal. Sears gets their extra 10 bucks or so and I'll finish my "Black Friday" at a competitor. It's not like I'm a big spender but Christmas shopping around my house is $2000 plus and I plan to finish all my shopping today. Sears decided 10 bucks for a tool is more important than 2000+ dollars spent in store. It's the principle right?

sears is a piece of shit; right now on their MAIN WEBSITE, they are advertising a treadmill for $349. when u put it in your cart, it still says $349, however when you go down to the total it says $399. I called customer service, was on hold for 2 hours and 45 minutes before getting a rep. who then told me it was a website error and that tos says they don't have to honor it. i read over tos with her, it says sears has the right to cancel an order due to website error. but that's besides the point, the sale is posted in flyers, on the main web page, and in the cart at checkout. a supervisor then told me there was some hidden time limit for this sale that ended at noon. false, neither the website, fliers, or anything else says that. he offered no explanation and hung up the phone. so like i said, sears is a piece of shit.

I tried talking with a customer support person about some of the errors online. I was not even asking them to honor the price on line but simply stating that many of the items i looked at had the wrong price. The support person basically said that it was my computer's fault and i needed to clear my cookies! I've never had a problem on any other site. At least fix your problems because about 50% of the items i looked at were the wrong price.

I just wonder what on line retailers would have to do to make these customers happy if someone hacked into an online storefont and changed all the prices. I guess the only way to make them happy would be to honor the prices that the hackers changed. I'm not saying that is what happened in this instance.

I watched a show on MSNBC last night that showed how fast identity thieves can totally wipe out someone's entire life savings. They set up 'test" accounts with only $1,000 in them. In one case, that money was gone in less than 2 minutes. If a typo is made on a website and stays on there incorrect for only 10 minutes, can you even fathom how many people could log in to make that purchase? If that online storefront had to legally honor the incorrect price, they could lose thousands or even millions of dollars....for what? Because someone hit a wrong key?

I know if you go into a Sears retail store and a price is marked wrong on an item, they will honor that incorrect price. It would be changed immediately after that sale, but 10 minutes of a wrongly priced item in the store would never cost a company thousands of dollars or more, or threaten to put them out of business.

I've heard enough. After reading all of this, I won't be shopping Sears online. And the nest I can tell, Sears also doesn't try to indicate whether items are avialable in stores. So I won't waste my time shopping Sears at all.

If I remember, Sears has had a statement concerning product availablity in the past. If they ran out of a product and a new version of the product became available they might substitute it. If the manufacturer stopped making them altogether and no substitutions were available Sears would cancel the order. The price not being guaranteed is something I don't remember in the past.

I really enjoy shopping at a store where it is user friendly to their customers. It makes a shopping experience much more pleasant when you can get the hang of how the system works. Not knowing if the order you took your time to shop for and to place is going to be processed is frustrating. Changing policies and dumping a customer's efforts is frustrating also. An unreliable system with poor customer service adds to the chaos.

I also have found an error on price and I did send a message to sears to ask them if they would honor there "error". Guess we will see if they do. I have been in store and bought something where they did indeed honor there price they had on something. I of course didn't know the price "error" in store, but they indeed honored it. Hope they do the same here. I guess if your going to not honor what you have on your site than you might as well not have a site or have someone running the site that checks these things. Will see if they honor there SEARS name I guess.

Hmmm....maybe they will........then again, maybe they won't.

It looks like they are more satisfied with chaos instead.

elkay said…

Frustrating isn't it?! I mean, I remember a time when businesses would do just about anything for their customers, and LEARNED from their mistakes, instead of hiding behind some "we're not responsible" disclaimers!

But that's okay...I found the EXACT same item sold at Kmart for LESS than Sears, AND via Couponcabin.com was able to apply an extra $5 off! :o)

I was planning on buying the trampoline anyway, it's just the principle of the matter that irks me the most! (Wanted to say that in case any of this is used for Customer Service TRAINING purposes!!)

Interesting...

Did you know K-Mart and Sears merged together a few years ago into Sears Holding Corporation? You may have noticed that K-Mart now carries Craftsmen tools in their tool section.

So in a way they did sort of match their own price in a fractured disfunctional totally random way but at your inconvenience and their market share risk.

By not checking and refering you to what I would call a "sister" store, they risked losing all your future business by sending you on your way to shop non-Sears Holding Corporation affiliated stores (like Wal-Mart) or by doing the right thing and honoring their original published price.

Maybe Customer Service AND Upper Management could learn a lesson here.
