in todays world petite means short your size 5'3 and under . you can usually buy your size from a 2 up to whatever you need. i am 5'3 and weigh 148lbs. so i would wear a size 14petite.

My trusty 'Websters' gives petite [Fr., fem of petit.] Little or tiny; small and shapely, esp. a girl or woman.

Height would be 5'3" and under typically. The standard inseam for petite pants is 29" or shorter. I think the term "petite" when referring to clothing sizes mostly refers to length and has nothing to do with weight or bust size.
