Be sure the problem is in the battery. I was having recharge problems, The cordless drill (craftsman) 7.3 had the charger that was failing. I would usually get to use it 4-5 days and I use it a lot. Then it would suddleny only work for a couple hours and go dead. I would charge it for 48 hours and it quite the very same day I took it off the Charger. If you have two completely seperate Batteries and they disgharge very quickly after Charging for the same amount of time It is probably the charger. Both batteries failing to hold a charge the same time I would look at the charger first.

I need advice on Nextec batteries that die and won't charge after a few uses. Being a 100% disabled vet I have to find tools very light weight since sometimes I have trouble holding just a glass of water. I LOVE the Nextec set but the batteries seem to die very early after only a few times of light use. The charger says they are defective and of course they won't charge then. Does anyone know if Craftsman is fixing the flaws in the Nextec battery? I can't believe I am that hard on them. It looks like the contact points on at least the battery are broken or twisted? Any way to DIY fix? Everything I have read says the batteries aren't covered by any warranty. I was given a Nextec set with the impact driver as a gift over a year ago and have since bought more of the Nextec tools. I love the impact driver as I have no strength to really push to drive a screw in. Can't even use a hammer anymore...LOL! However building things helps me forget my pain so I am always looking for lighter tools and other "helpers" like a rolling stool so I can sit and work. Any advice? Thanks!

Seeing as Sears has chosen not to provide a reaonable solution (price wise) perhaps you could check with a place like Batteries Plus. They often can actually rebuild battery packs for less than the cost of a new replacement

Hi TheKingPrawn!

At present, there is not an 18 volt equivalent battery for our older 18 volt line and the 19.2 batteries are not compatible with the 18 volt line. That means that your two options would be:

*Choose to keep your current drills and lights and purchase 18 volt NiCad batteries for them through the Sears parts network.

*Get a new kit of drills and worklights in the 19.2 line with new 19.2 NiCad or Li-Ion batteries.

Honestly, option #2 is probably going to be much less monetarily involved for you. 18 volt batteries (depending on your models) can run as high as $64 each and a new 19.2 volt kit with 1 drill, 1 worklight, and 1 li-ion battery with charger goes on sale for as low as $80, plus your new li-ion battery will be far superior and last much longer than your present 18 volt ni-cads.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I've 2 drills and 2 worklights and between the 4 tools 6 18V ni-cad battery packs in which 2 are completely flat, 2 wont charge, and 2 wont hold a charge longer then an hour. The drills and lights work fantastic and I really don't want to pick up another kit. What are my options? Is there a Li-ion battery that my tools will accept? How about the 19.2V battery that is in an identical enclosure?

I had the same experience but the new battery worked for one charge only. Took it back, it was about 3 weeks old at that point and got a new battery. Charged it up about 2 weeks later and then used it sparingly over the course of the next two months. While using it stopped like the other lithium ion batteries do and when I went to charge it, it would not charge showing defective. I had thrown away the receipt by then and now the store where I purchased it says they must have the receipt. I went on line to see if there were any fixes for the battery only to find that this is a common problem. Defective batteries can be purchased on EBAY for cheap. I reconditioned my older NiCads and I am using them now rather than get stuck spending another $100 for something that fails when I need it!

That's a weird little run of bad luck. Fortunately, if they're defective, the company will be able to determine if there's a batch issue. Rest assured that the vast majority are not defective. :)

My EX batteries (2) suddenly stopped accepting a charge. Through process of elimination, the tool department determined the charger was bad. I bought a dual chemistry charger with 1 Li battery in a kit because the sales person said my NiCd batteries would charge on this charger as well. They do "fit" into the charger. The manual says, "CHARGER CAN BE USED ONLY FOR CRAFTSMAN BATTERY PACKS WITH THE FOLLOWING ITEM/PART NUMBERS:". Naturally my batteries are not listed. My batteries have 7 digit battery numbers and the listed batteries have 9 digits. Anyone have an idea if the 1323903 battery will charge without damaging the battery or the dual chemistry charger?

Circuit braker trips

With the saw unplugged, use a voltmeter to check for a short circuit. Begin by checking for continuity between each tab of the plug and the round ground plug. Do this with the switch to the saw off and with it on. If you see continuity to the ground with the switch on (or off) then you have a short somewhere. You'll have to make more tests to track it down.

Craftsman table saw 137.228210

I too recently inherieted this saw. My problem is that the Circuit breaker trips after the saw has only ran for a couple of seconds. I even tried bypassing the built in circuit breaker only to find that the saw would trip my garage GFI outlet. Any thoughts on where to start?

Thanks
