This happened to us. Model #: 665,95002102 Serial#: RM4541940. My wife was baking and noticed the oven not operating normally with the broiler element glowing red hot with no control. She called me and managed to pull the stove out and unplug it. After perusing the Internet, appears this is not an uncommon problem. We reported to the CPSC as every incident of this type should be reported. Due to the possible severity of the consequences, i.e., house fires and or potential loss of life, this should result in a full recall or class action lawsuit.

This also happened to me last night. I have model # 790.95889300. I was cooking brownies when the oven started beeping non stop. It had an F1 error code. I got the manual out and followed the directions to shut it off. After a while I realized it wasn't going off and was getting hotter and hotter. Thankfully we were able to unplug it. I called the 1 800 number on my manual and was told that for $129 a technician could come out. I deciced to wait and I'm so glad I did. Looking online I can't believe how many other people have been affected by this. And yet no recall!! We will be buying a new oven and it won't be a Kenmore. We have always bought Kenmore products but not anymore!

I came home from work this morning to find that my house smelled of my Kenmore Oven cleaning. Wait, I never set it to clean!...It heated up to the point that I could not turn it off at the control panel. I unplugged the oven.

I began my seach on the internet.

I apparently am not alone.

Sears refuses to do anything to correct this problem with thousands of folks having the same issue.

Poor, very poor service. But in total honesty...should we really expect any more from Sears? The company mission statement has certainly changed over the years, now we can refer to them as "low end".

It will be my mission to correct any of my friends or my friends friends to purchase something other than Kenmore.

The conversion kit is relatively cheap - best bet is to check for it on www.searspartsdirect.com

Also, check www.managemylife.com and you will find the owners manual for your model number, as well as (and I'm guessing) a walk through on converting it.

Most gas Ranges come with the conversion kit included either in a small plastic pouch attached on the rear of the Range, sometimes it is in the owner's information package with all the instructions.

I would advise you to get the model number of your range and then scoot on over to managemylife.com where you can look up an owners manual for your range.

Conversion can range from being so simple as adjusting the orifice hoods on some models to involving actually ordering and replacing orifices (orifi?).

Sorry I cannot be more definitive for you but there are literally thousands of gas ranges out there and more than a few conversion schemes.

So, Yes, JulieK. Sears-Doesn't-Care was a absolutely Fan-F*ing-Tastic resource.

It's always nice to be told to pound sand by mutliple levels of "specialists".

'IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN HELP YOU WITH TODAY?"

It's been a while.. I figured that I owed you all a follow up. Following JulieK's advice. I contacted her and she put in touch with a "case worker". Wow!

So how did this all go.? I am sure that you will all be shockewd by this. The case worker said that

"this is the first time she has ever heard of this happening!"

Ok, so, moving on. what next?

"Oh it's out of warranty?"

Followed by:

"Well, Sears doesn't actually MAKE that product"

Oh really? Ya don't say.. Now let's get to the punch lines..

"well there is nothing that WE can do here. I suggest you call the manufacturer"

When I told her I purchased this from SEARS, not Frigidaire..

"I know that, But, it's not OUR problem".

And to wrap it up:

"Well, is there anything else I can help you with today?"

Yep Kenmore bites. My dad swore by good old Sears. That was Sears then. The new Sears has customer service in another countrty and no way to get a satifactory result when you have a faulty product.

My $1500 2 year old range needs over $300 dollars in repair for the control board. So freakin mad.
