Hi yiiking, 60 is an accurate reading since the engine has a compression release system but running compression should be around 90 psi. If you followed the starting directions then it's probably bad fuel.

I have already cut a hole into the plastic shield of the blower, but am struggling to find the correct hook up for the blower. Does anyone have wiring information on the blower? I need a positive DC voltage to power the meter. Of course it needs to be only when the blower's engine is running. Any help woul be appreciated. Thanks.

Could someone tell me if a light kit is available that would mount in the case where the auger and gear selector switch are? There is a place on the drawing called a lens. I heard a heat gun is all you need to get the decal off.

Where are the stator wires located?

Thanks in advance.

Hi RayDalby;

You might ask this question to the Sears Experts on "Manage My Life", as they can help with diagnosis, diagrams, and correct part numbers. Please include with your initial question the complete model number of your snow blower. You will get a response within 24 - 48 hours. Copy and paste the following web address to your upper address bar, and click the go button. Click the "Ask The Experts" button. You will then most likely be directed to a free sign-up page, and then to a page for entering yor question.

I have a C950-52475-6 model and when you pull the Traction Drive handle down it moves, but the wheels lock up after a few feet. I was wondering if the 48 tooth gear needs to be changed as it looks a little worn. To get it moving again, you have to push and pull the snowblower and it will unlock or free up or whatever and goes again, but it locks up soon after and you have to continually repeat the push pull routine again.

Hi Utah, the best fit is the current Craftsman snowthrower 486.24837. Here are copy & pastes to Sears Partsdirect for your thrower and the next version (486.24838, the model number on the decal under your tractor's hood). The mounting brackets #32 are different and it looks like they added another pulley on the clutch frame. The newest version is best since modifications are added each year to fit previous Craftsman tractor models.

I have a 917287462 Craftsman tractor that I want to fit up with a snow thrower. Have a chance to purchase a NEW in the box 486248392 attachment. Will this fit my tractor without modifications and if not what is the best attachment for my tractor. Winter is just around the corner and I would appreciate some good feed back.

Which snowblower 88779 vs 88957

Very disappointed in the performance and durability of the 88779.

On the plus side, it is a fairly powerful 22 inch path clearing, 2-stage machine, and I bought mine at a good sale price. It starts on the first pull if one follows the procedure in the owner's manual. The electric start is real handy if your wife or kid doesn't follow the procedure and floods the engine -- saves a lot of pulling!

However, I am finding it not a very durable machine. Although the machine still looks brand new, the drive cable broke mid-way through the second season (16 months from date of purchase). Its single drive speed is annoying -- too slow for light snows, and too fast for deep snows. And maneuvering it around is a hassle, as the wheels do not rotate independently, so on turns, one is always skidding. Along with no reverse speed, it can get tiring if you turning the machine around if you are clearing anything other than long straight sections.

The chute and auger-to-2nd-stage-thrower transfer area clog easily in wet/heavy snows, and ends up simply plowing the snow forward instead of throwing it aside. Its as if there needs to be smaller gap between the left and right sides of the auger blade to force the snow into the 2nd stage better.

I didn't have a single problem with the machine for the first 15 months, but in the last month I have had to replace the drive cable, and have to inflate the tires before each use. The tires look in perfect condition - no punctures, pinches, or gouges, so I can only assume there is a problem with the inner tubes or valves (on both tires). I won't know which until the weather warms up and I can have look at it.

Yes, I disconnected the chute rod, then removed the housing, which in my case, is where the light is. Before you remove the housing, move the joystick as far to the front of the blower as possible. Look down inside the housing, you'll see where the joystick connects to the chute rod. That is the 4 way chute control assembly. You should see little "bumps" opposite each other on the connections. Those are the roll pins, they keep everything inside the assembly connected. I have 4 pins, in my case, the one closest to the chute rod was loose. I was fortunate it hadn't worked it's way completely out, so I was able to pound it back in with a hammer and punch. Be careful when you remove the housing, the cables will still be connected. There should be enough "play" so you can work it. Good luck, let me know if have any questions.

Hi YoMaMJ, sounds like you have a newer model if there is a rod to control the rotation. Try a little grease at the bottom of the chute or the other pin hole on that rod... there's two. Got a model number?
