Plasma will make your room get hot due to the heat that radiates off of the Tv....I would go a different route far away from plasma.

Hi SuckaFree32;

You might be better off with a computer that has TV capabilities.

I have a new Sony 24" internet TV, NSX24GT1, that has numerous "glitches" such as:

On every start-up I get an error "processor system not responding" and the only solution tech support has is to clear cookies which has no effect on the problem.

Google Chrome error "not responding" at least once per day, usually more.

I can't open e-mail most of the time, unlike with my computer that works every time.

The TV didn't recognize the keypad once, and had to be "re-connected".

Sony online tech support is basically useless, as they will respond, but keep you on hold for a long time while they apparently ask their supervisor how to fix the problem. Phone support seams more knowledgeable.

Won't open PDF files.

No hard drive, so you can't download anything.

For Dorm/Bedroom: Best Gaming TV?

Hi! I am a college student, but I live off campus in an apartment. I am looking to purchase a tv strictly for gaming (1 player only) in my bedroom. I have a friend who uses a 24" for the same purpose and it seems to work well for him. I would be willing to go up to a 32" since I may not always want to be sitting real close, but even then it seems I am limited to LCD/LED sets. I have read through the main discussion about gaming televisions and from other research I think that overall a plasma may be best, but unless someone knows of a plasma between 24-32 inches, are there any recommendations or advice for my needs? Thank you!

We are in the market for a new TV this year, and your comments are good to know. We have a small living space with lots of windows, and it is hard to find the perfect position for a TV with a reflective screen. Sounds like this is the way to go.

RCA LCD 1080 60hz 46" TV

We had a RCA 52" projection HD TV for 6 years. Last week I gave it to a family that needed a TV. It is still working great. We bought the new RCA LCD four days ago. I cannot believe the difference what 720p, (Broadcast TV) looks like. It is really sharp and clear. But here is the real icing on the cake. The projection as we all know is real hard to see from the sides, it fades to nothing. It also reflects everything in front of it so the TV had to be positioned so it would not reflect the people across the street! The new RCA TV does not do any of this. I have it pointed directly at the front picture window with the verticals wide open and nothing but a beautiful crisp clear picture! So I went and bought a Bluray. OMG, I will never go to the movies again! I am going to wait and get the disk. It really is that good. I did read some reviews on this set that were not exactly good. I always get the SEARS service agreements for five years and if this TV blows up and flys through the roof, I get a new unit. I could care less if it breaks down. SEARS does not offer "Extended Warranties." Those things are junk and I would never buy one. Everything SEARS in my house ahs a service rep come visit it once per year to check on it too. Since 1969 I have had little trouble with SEARS.

I don't have cable or dish, and it will likely be snowing in July before I do! Although they offer some very interesting and informative programs, I personally cannot justify the expense no more than I watch TV. Of course the decible discrepancy is just as annoying on regular channels as well.

>_< That has always bugged me too... though right now I don't have cable so I don't really watch TV and therefore I don't have to deal with the commercials anymore. Though when I did... I hated them!

Now instead of commercials, I have a problem with on movies the special effects are WAY to loud.. so I need to constantly turn up the volume to hear the talking, then crank it down quickly whenever any action happens. @_@ It's insane!

Regarding blame for networks/cable not abiding by this new decibel law I think your reasoning is probably accurate. Sounds similar to the symbiotic relationship between auto makers and gasoline companies.

I am certain that somebody wants these commercials ringing loudly in our ears, long after the television is turned off.

Not to mention, why is every cable-channel a different volume, and requires a volume control adjustment ? Well, the answer is simple, the cable head-end is just lazy, the technology to balance the audio has always been available but it takes manpower and equipment to accomplish. And of course the cable company cannot spend this money because they need to spend more $$ figuring out how to make us pay more, more and more.I dont want to come across as a cable-hater.I think cable is the best thing to ever happen to TV,but their never ending quest to "grow the business" seems to be customer-negative in what is mostly a monopolistic milieu.Sorry for sliding off the topic slightly but it seemed like not that far removed.

And, as you stated, it is like a play-station game, in that you have to anticipate when a commercial is coming so you can hit the volume control in time.

TV Commercial Noise

About four years ago I bought a Sony Bravia KDL-32S2010 (1080i signal). This was a replacement for a non-functioning Magnavox 32" color TV that I owned. The Magnavox sported a feature called Smart Sound. This feature, when activated was supposed to monitor and maintain sound levels, keeping them within the scope of what I set at the volume control. The feature never did work as advertised and finally the TV tube went out, which is why I bought the Sony HD TV.

We (the country) seem to have an impossible sound system law (effective January 2011) to enforce. If I understand correctly, Networks/Stations are being banned from broadcasting commercial's at significantly higher decibels than the regular programming.

Although it didn't work on my Magnavox, it seems like a great idea to encorporate a decible monitoring device to maintain a single sound level, easily set by pushing a button on the TV remote control.

TV commercial's still blow me away and assult my senses. For now we just turn the volume up and down...up and down...up and down...it's like pushing buttons on a play-station game.

We need a Technology Fix not another useless law!

I didn't do any fine tuning when I got it. I'm using an HDMI cable off of a HD cable box from Bright House Networks.

What type of TV is best for gaming?

quote:I know for sure that IR and BI are still problems with Plasma. Are they as prevalent as a few years ago? No. But it is not a true statement to claim it isn't concern anymore. Especially when the TV will be mainly used for gaming, which is the most well known cause of IR and BI. I agree if a TV is properly used it shouldn't face these issues but try to explain that to a 12 year old.

I love this "try to explain that to a 12 year old"
