you can break th siphon by turning off the Washer, wait until the water draining down the pipe can get some air to break the siphon, then turn the Washer back on. If you set the Washer for a second rinse you may need to stop the washer again. To fix the problem you may need to clean the drain pipe. If the Washer has been in place for some time the problem would indicate a slow drain

It sounds like the timer is sticking. The wash water drains, and the drain is still open when the rinse cysle tries to fill. Seeing as turning the knob just a bit makes it work correctlly, you most likely need to replace (or possibly clean with a solvent made for electronics) the timer mechanism.

My wife has a kemore top load washer model number 110 22642100 and sometimes when it is filling with water for the rinse cycle the water runs straight through. If you turn the setting knob just a little bit it will begin to fill. I believe it is the setting knob switch. I am thinking right

You may be correct. However as I have said on this site a couple of times it is my understanding that when detergents were first introduced to the 'domestic' marketplace the customer's wanted 'suds' as they used to get with soap so the manufacturers' obliged although the 'suds' supposedly did nothing to help with the actual cleaning. I have tried several times to verify, or otherwise this and have so far failed. Should it be correct, on the face of it, there would appear to be no need for a defoamer.

Powdered detergents particularly contain relative large proportions of sodium carbonate (washing soda) which reacts with many of the 'hardness salts' found in ground water some of which form the floating 'scum'.

Someone told me but I don't know if it is true, that some of these detergents have a defoamer added and it is the defoamer that is floating on the surface that causes some of the build up.

Even 'Coldwater' Tide requires 'at least 40 degrees'. Please see the thread; -

http://www.mysears.com/Washers-Dryers--4003/topics/How-Cold-Can-The-Water-Be-For-Cold-Water-Detergents-To-Work/posts

Should you wish to find out which 'Tide' is 'rght' for your needs you can, as I did, have a little 'playabout' at this site: -

http://www.tide.com/en-US/selector/index.jspx

I did not find a selection that did not recommend 'Coldwater Tide' when my selection was for 'Coldwater', but take that out and and go for the tougher cleaning jobs and 'Coldwater Tide' did not show at all.

My conclusion the 'Coldwater' detergent is OK for very lightly soiled laundry but anything 'tougher' your best bet is something 'stronger' and with warmer or even 'hot' water.

When I was a child I can remember my mother, and numerous other housewives, used to use 'soap flakes' as opposed to detergent, which was 'new' at the time, for 'delicates' and 'woolens'. I do not know the reasoning behind this perhaps it was just something 'done' during the transition from true soaps to detergents. Even when our children were infants dearly beloved would use a block of 'Sunlght Soap' on some of their 'baby clothes', again I do not really know why, perhaps because it was something her mother did?

Water just cool enough to gum up the inside of your washer. Then you have to buy a chemical to clean out the gunk.

How much energy is used making those chemicals and packaging that cost $6.00 a use? Use it once a month and you spend $72.00 a year but washing with hot water might cost an extra $20.00 a year.

I wonder who thought of that brilliant idea?

Read your owner's manual, these new Washers require "he" detergent. The hot water will be controlled to have a temp. of 125 degrees, any hotter and the enzimes in the soap are killed and the soap is rendered useless, also you will notice if you select cold, the water will alternate hot and cold for a 85 degree temp. the water should be 85 degrees to activate the enzimes for better cleaning. Some machines will give a "tap cold" selection to save on energy costs. you probably won't be happy with the results in winter when "tap cold" will be ice water. The manual will probably say you are saving the planet by using these new style of energy/water saving Washers.

To be so called energy efficient, many new washers have lower temperature "hot" water, which is actually a mix of hot and cold. You could try closing the cold water tap halfway, to see if you can fool the machine, or you could shut off the cold water entirely when the machine is filling.

Isn't progess and being "green" wonderful? I don't think so either

I just recently purchased a Kenmore Elite washer. When I run a load with the setting on hot/cold, the water only comes out warm. I have tried numerous load settings to run loads that are hot, but they are all only warm. I ran a load of whites last night. I waited for the water to fill the tub, when I did so; I opened up the lid and found the load warm instead of hot. The water hose connectors are correct. Am I missing something here…?

Kenmore 800 Series Washer - Cycle Timer

Well I am just as disgusted as most of you are with this Kemore product. We have had our a little over a year and it has started agitating before water fills and after the spin cycle ends it adds more water. We bought a new timer and agitator delay switch in hopes of a fix and that it is not the transmission. but it has not fixed the issues. The cost for them just to come look at it and then the parts is almost as much as a new washer. Our other Kenmore lasted 15 years, I think we will be lookign elsewhere for a new washer, especially aftere reading all the posts out there regardig this washer and the dissatisfaction of getting things resolved. This washer should have been recalled.

Kenmore 800 Series Washer - Cycle Timer

scflathead said…

Have a Kenmore 800 that just started acting up. In a cycle, first the washer starts agitating, then the water starts filling. Wash and drain appear to be O.K. Spin and drain appears to be OK, until the very end, then the fill starts. Then the cycle ends, we have wet cloths. Tried Casual and bulky cycles, with same results. Is it the cycle timer or what?

I have the same problem, did you ever find a solution?

I have a kenmore 800 series, it has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. 1st it would wash but not rinse, had it repaired. A few months later would start agitating without putting water in on the wash cycle, no matter what cycle you put it on, had it repaired. Now it has started the same thing, went & bought a new washer yesterday & going to junk this kenmore washer that I've only had for 1& 1/2 years. This washer is a piece of junk & I will never buy another kenmore washer. They don't stand behind their products & I'm not going to keep paying to get it repaired, hopefully my new one (not a kenmore) will last me longer than 1 1/2 years!!!!

So washer has never had a problem til today. I set the wash and the dryer. Noticed the dryer finished, checked the wash and it was full of water.. Not sure at what point it stopped. So I tried to put it just before spin; and noting. I tried to put it on spin; again nothing. Just to see if it was working at all I set the water level at the smallest load and it started. I stayed to watch the water level to make sure no overflow; and it never went into the next phase nor will it run in spin cycle. I tried to see if it would do the same thing and started the cycle over again and now there is nothing. I've replugged the unit in and checked all the house fuses to make sure nothing has blown. Everything there is a-okay. What now?
