The fries honestly are not that good. Not bad, but not the kind of fries you'd want multiple orders of.

My local mall seems pretty good but I really don't go there very often and almost never at night. It seems to have a good variety of things but the parking is not so great during very busy times. I'd go there more often if they'd get rid of or crack down on the kiosk vendors in the open areas between stores. They are very aggressive and will stand right in front of you as you're trying to walk by. It gets very annoying so I plan out my shopping strategy and use entrances and exits to avoid having to be out in the open mall area very much.

I'd go there more often to window shop if the kiosk vendors were not so aggressive. It immediately puts me in Sean Penn/smacking down the paparazzi mode the minute I get there and that's no fun.

Bottomless fries? Yikes!! That is a weakness of mine and a good reason for me not to try Red Robin as I'm sure I would love it.

As for my local mall, it is doing very well. We have Dilliards, Macy's, and Sears as the anchor stores and just over 150 specialty retailers. For the last two years, they have also made a curfew for minors after a certain hour. They have to be accompanied by an adult and some employees of the stores like it but others think it decreases sales.

Haven't been to Red Robin either but it's upscale burgers, bottomless fries and drinks. Burton's was good, a little pricy and a short menu but tasty. Good meals go well with shopping.

One thing I like about the indoor malls is the air conditioned space. It can be a great place to get some walking exercise while shopping. Senior citizens have mentioned how they like to walk at the mall while shopping. I don't have a problem doing business in older business districts. You can bring an old place back to life and enjoy it.

Have you ever seen some old cities that look like ghost towns in some areas? It looks like all the people gradually moved outward away from them while leaving a lot of good places behind. Some people I have met said they snapped up bargains and revitalized old areas and made them prosper again. A lot of old areas have a lot of potential. Think about how being in town can lower gasoline costs by eliminating things like long commutes.

Some of the very large malls that are struggling would make nice indoor colleges or education facilitys. Here in Cincinnati we have some very attractive malls that are almost empty.I work for a School Dist.We have several buildings that are close to a 100 years old very expensive to maintain. Our Superintendent once made a remark about moving the whole District 16 buildigs into a mall. One central enclosed School District.I thought he was kiding and maybe he was but when you think about it the idea sounds real good.Security would greatly improve plenty of parking. The anchor strores could be the elementarys and middle schools and the smaller shops High school class rooms the food court could serve as a cafetaria and common auditorium.Central Heat and Air plenty of open space and room.

One of the main issues with some of the malls in this area is safety. They have drawn what I will call a less than desiriable element, and people are not willing to risk theft from their vehicles, robbery, and sexual assault to shop there. The only malls that are still doing well are the big Mills company malls, and even those are suffering from crime and public safety issues

An attached 2 or 3 level garage would improve parking. I like the idea of more restaurants, people have to eat. Red Robin calls your cell phone when a table opens up.

LOL, Our local mall is on "life support". It has lost one anchor and is set to loose a Scheels All Sports Anchor next spring as they are building a new store on the south end of town. The interior parts of the mall are less than 50% occupied. Rent at this mall is outragous and is most likely a reason for a lot of the vacantcies. Another problem is that many people these days shop at "in line" strip malls or shopping centers. People like to be able to park close to the store they planned on visiting without having to walk long corridors. The design of the once popular shopping mall is obsolete which is evident in malls accross the country.

What can bring them back? Redesign to make accessability to stores easier, as well as having more than just stores. The mall has to become a "destination" or "lifestyle center" in addition to shops there needs to be other features that can draw people who have more than just an urge to shop. Some features include workout facilities, movie theatres, resturants, skating rinks, water parks, museums/ indoor parks and even office space.

Hey Madgolfer! My local mall has had two anchor stores to close. For starters, my mall needs two anchor stores. The mall is kind of old but I don't have a problem with it. Some of the surrounding businesses have either moved on, remained in business, or failed. I think Bloomingdales has closed a store across town also.

A short distance down the road they built a lot of new big box retail stores and there is a large vacancy rate there. Across the road a Circuit City store failed but several other large stores are still in business. A short distance from there on the opposite side of the road a shopping center with a grocery store and restaurants appears to be booming. They seem to have taken business from the mall.

Like I said earlier, I don't have a problem with my local mall and I still shop at the Sears there.

What would bring customers back to the malls? A local Simons mall just opened three restaurants, clustered around a new Dick's sporting goods anchor store, the Burtons and Red Robin are always slammed. Restaurant, theatre...indoor golf? More for thought:
