Jobs Your Grandparents Did

On my Mom's side, my Grandfather was a postmaster at the post office in West View, PA. My Grandmother was a teacher in the Pittsburgh school district.

On my Dad's side, my Grandfather was a car painter and mechanic at a dealership. My Grandmother worked in the office at the local Montgomery Ward.

My great-grandmother was an Obstetrica, a midwife in Berwick PA who delivered over 2,100 babies for $5 or 2 chickens each.

This is a nice topic, WeekendWarrior!

I think I am too young to really know WHAT my grandparents actually did when they were working! That's horrible to say-I just remember going to their house and playing, mostly. I know where they worked, but not what they did, actually! And, I remember when they retired and had more time to hang out!

I do know my grandfather only had a half a pinky finger from a work related accident, and that always fascinated me.

Hello neighbors,

I'm CJ and a new member. I thought it would be interesting to post a fun topic like Jobs Your Grandparents Did and guess I'll get it started!

My mom's dad ran a middle-of-nowhere- Esso truck stop & General Store on Hwy 9 in north Louisiana. Hunters would gather there for coffee or a NeHi and snuff. He taught me how to count change back to 'neighbors' and when less fortunate neighbors came by they were able to take a carton of milk and loaf of bread - they signed their name in a little green 'Guest Book'. Behind the building he had a pond where you could catch your own, he kept some cattle and a grapevine.

My maternal grandmother was a grade school teacher and also tended a large community garden alongside the highway, downhill from the store. She grew all kinds of greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, okra, peaches, plums, and crazy looking gourds she painted and hung from the fence and sunflowers too. On evenings and weekends neighbors would stop in and swap something and pick a basket full.

I think of them often though they're long gone and I'm nearly an old lady myself... I said nearly ;)
