Yes,but you need a file converter. Itunes has i believe mp4? not mp3 files so you would need a converter program.

Yes is the short answer - BUT there's a body of education to acquire on how/why to synch/play non-apple tunes with a non-apple mp3 player.

Begs the question - if you want to play mp3's, do you need anything from apple? Why? apple limits your ability to play what you want unless you involve their software. That said, there are many schools of thought on a media player with or without apple, which limits you somewhat.

My intent is not to beat up on apple, who makes great products, rather to inform/educate that tying to a format (apple) limits your flexibility unless you want apple in the middle of your media stream.

Are mp3 players OTHER THAN iPods able to load songs from iTunes? I am not happy with the new headphones for the iPod shuffle and am looking at other brands. However, i don't want to lose use of the songs I have stored in iTunes. Thanks.

I can't find the uninstall in programs and features. The pop ups from mp3 are becoming anoying.

your best off with an iPod while you are spending more money its much easier to use and much more reliable. Set it up when you first get it and everytime after that you put the iPod on its sync cable and it will sync itself up.

juneytuney, i had some nice luck with the Onyx mp3 media player. It supports a windows style hierarchy of folders for placing your tunes in. YOu set up a new folder on the desktop of the pc or any other place you choose to put music (mp3, or wma format). Throw your music disk into the drive bay,use windows media to rip your tracks to wma or mp3. Find those resulting files. Put them in said folder with name that you made via PC. Drag across to " new harddrive" - ( this seen under my computer,- it's your onyx player,-the pc sees this as a drive letter- h,i,j, or k once you attach with usb cable. Done. Oh yes and always do a safe eject.

I have many mp3 players for my sisters, some don't use itunes which makes uploaded difficult. I bought the iPod naano for my nephew, he makes videos uploads easily to youtube.watches movies and music videos on car trips. The only difference is i bought the 16 gig for $30 more than the $8 gig. but some of the mp3 players i purchased for less than $20 and the difficulty and quaity decreases with price. Just depend on your child i bought the last gen nano for my nephew and he lost it in two weeks and the new one he cracked screen playing football with it in pocket in less than 6 months.

If it were my kid I would get him/her an iPod Nano. 8G and 16G variations retail just south of $150, it'll shoot video, has superior aftermarket support compared to its non-Apple contemporaries, nine awesome color options, and the Apple panache that is important to some people (especially kids).

Oh and if your kid is going to use it for fishing you can get him the Pelican i1010 waterproof case. Despite the description, the case will work with later gen iPods.

whatever you get, you should get a case for it. i have the itouch and the case is the only reason it's still working. Oh and if he drops it in the water, put it in a bag of rice for a week. The rice saved mine and my dad's itouch after being washed in the washer and droped in the bath tub

They are portable harddrives not flash drives, so they will break if dropped most of the time. My dad works at a computer repair shop and gets these in quite often. if he just wants to listen to music get a basic mp3 player.
