It's the age-old struggle - cut down on clutter. But you can do it for real this time. Here are some simple ways you can reclaim your home.
1. Go wireless. If your desk is a mess of wires and cords, consider going wireless. Going wireless frees up your workspace in more ways than one: you aren't bound to your desk and you wont be surrounded by cumbersome cords.
2. Peg it up. Install a cork board in your office or kitchen with containers for pens, pencils and paper attached. This will move utensils and important papers from your desk to the wall, keeping you more organized and your desk tidy. Whew.
3. Closet organizer. Installing a closet organizing will take some time, but the benefits are endless. It will give you a place for all your clothes so you have no more excuse for clutter. And admit it, don't clothes make up a lot of the mess? Another way to cut down on clutter is picking outfits out before you go to bed. It will save you from scrambling in the morning and throwing clothes around. (This is a great tip for kids, too.)
4. Organize the kids. Maybe the clutter isn't all yours, so organize the kids. Start with giving them plastic bins for their things, like school and art supplies. If kids have a specific place for their things, they will be more likely to clean up.
5. Give clutter a home. How often do you find your coat or purse cluttering up a room simply because you have no place to put it? Install coat hooks in your foyer or kitchen so items like these have a place. Install enough so that everyone in your house has a place to store their things. If you have kids, consider placing the hooks low enough that they can reach them easily.
6. File it away. Invest in a few file containers for your office, study, basement, or wherever you have space. Be sure to put your file containers somewhere you'll actually use them, though, because the next step is the most important: be diligent! Clutter wont file itself. That part is up to you.
7. Plan it. Organization isn't always about clutter. Be sure to keep every one's lives straight with a family calendar. Try a dry erase calendar for easy updates and put it somewhere accessible.
