As a whole, there are 3 types of tractors to consider. Many of the features are commonly shared between the three; however, selecting the tractor that best suits your mowing area is essential. Between lawn, garden and zero-turn-radius tractors, you will be able to find the right tractor for the job.

Garden Tractor

Two points to consider when deciding between a lawn and garden tractor are the size of your yard, and the tasks that you wish to complete. Garden tractors contain larger cutting decks and rear wheels, reducing the time it takes to mow a greater amount of land.

Garden tractors contain a heavier frame and transmission, enabling you to attach a variety of ground-engaging attachments, such as plows, tillers, cultivators and more.

  • Garden tractors are an ideal choice for lawns more than 3 acres

Lawn Tractors

What separates lawn tractors from standard riding mowers is the engine. The engine is larger and mounted in front for better weight distribution, while the mowing deck is placed underneath.

Deluxe lawn tractors have larger gas tanks and improved styling. Keep in mind that even though lawn tractors can sustain certain attachments, their strength is in their ability to easily maneuver.

  • Lawn tractors are an ideal choice for lawns between 1/2 to 3 acres, without a cluster of obstacles

Zero-Turn-Radius Tractors

The agility of a zero-turn-radius mower is its greatest benefit. Being able to maneuver in tight spots can reduce mowing time and constant encircling.

  • Zero-turn-radius tractors are an ideal choice for lawns filled with a number of trees and other obstacles, regardless of lawn size
