Sears Works with the Community

I wish Sears and Kmart would partner with a local non-profit or charity to push a different event. This is a win/win for the community. One idea would be to partner with the local library. Kids can come in for story-time one day. They could call this "Children's Literacy Day" or something. Another idea would be for Sears of Kmart to partner with American Red Cross. They can have the van outside taking blood donations, if you come in the store to shop after you donate, you get a discount.

A great idea and something to base Store Manager performance evaluations on also. If you're too lazy to bring the community to you, why be the guy in charge?

Let me explain it this way ... A store manager who is too busy with a narrow view of his duties is not much of a salesman or leader. Involving the community with events centered around the store is fantastic marketing and a good thing for the community. A win-win situation for Sears and the community. If a Store Manager is too lazy to get involved with his or her community, what sort of sales oriented person is that? The higher you go in an organization the more "people-oriented" your job really becomes. Leaders do more than push a pencil. Leading and selling are similar things in some ways ...
