Show me the money ... um, INVENTORY!!

We have a Home Appliance store ( acronym H.A.S.) nearby that just opened.  It is a very small store and carries a few items.  Nothing close to being a full store, but it is there to help with orders or pickups and is a fraction of the distance to a full store.  Many times I've ordered an item and selected the HAS as the pickup location.  It may take a few extra days to get it sometimes, but the item will be sent there for pickup regardless.  Just about all the items I've picked up were not carried in inventory at this HAS.  However,  I've lost track of how many times an item that is carried online and available at one of the big box stores further away and I can't have it available for pickup at the HAS.  Or, it is available at the Sears 2-3 times further away (across town) but can't be sent to the local HAS or even a closer Sears big box.  There has got to be a better way to get the goods to customer (and ultimately the sale made to Sears).

So are you saying that you have never obtained an online order that was available for pickup at the local home appliance store? I am not following your post, and if it always ends up at the big box store, that may just be how the chains operate between each other.

I guess you misread/misunderstood. I wrote above: "Many times I've ordered an item and selected the HAS as the pickup location. It may take a few extra days to get it sometimes, but the item will be sent there for pickup regardless." What is odd is that just about all of the items I've ordered are not normally in inventory, but because I ordered online I can "sometimes" select that store as a pick up location. So even though they are not in inventory directly at the HAS, the order system ships there and lets me pick them up there. Where it gets confusing it that this can randomly change for no explained reason. Sometimes it refuses to let the HAS be a pick-up location. I'm not talking about special handling items or things that are really heavy or bulky. Nobody can explain it to me on the 800# and the store people certainly have no clue. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
