The early winter months are a dark time in the Midwest. Our fields are fallow and the farmers’ markets sparsely populated. It’s a time tough time indeed for locavores.
While Purple Asparagus incorporates as many local products into its programs as possible, during these dark days, we turn to some imported fruits for our school program. Starting in January and ending in early February, we tote a whole assortment of citrus fruits to schools all over Chicago.
We explain that citrus fruits are one big happy family starting out with the five orange siblings.
