On Nov. 16, 2009 I purchased a display model camera--the Canon SX 10--at your Garden City, N.Y. store for $244.93 plus tax [clearance price]. It was the last one available. The batteries in the camera were dead so I could not test it. When I got home and inserted new batteries, a message appeared on the LCD screen----"LENS ERROR". The camera did not function. I called Canon customer service and was told the camera could be repaired under the warranty but only if it had not been abused or dropped while it was on display. I had no intention of having it repaired even at no cost so soon after I bought it. Furthermore, Canon would probably charge since the camera was obviously damaged while on display.

I plan to be back in the Garden City store on Monday, Nov.23rd, to return the camera. I feel this was a waste of my time since it could have been avoided if the camera was tested by your personnel prior to a sale. Certainly live batteries should at least be available to test the product....

While not for the beginner, you can add a free open source piece of software called CHDK to the SD Flash card on this camera and add a whole new realm of features normally only found on very expensive DSLR cameras used for scientific inquiry.

I've been using it to take time lapse (intervelometry) photos of rare plant species to study their growth, pollinators, and grazers (who eats them). You can also to motion sensing and tailor the sensitivity so that motion only in certain areas of the screen will trigger it.

While this "how to video" on you tube is a bit condescending, it's a very good step by step on how to setup CHDK on most of the point and shoot Canon Cameras.

I recently bought Fujifilm 7.1 camera, because I dropped my Sony and cracked the lens which was not the greatest camera nor the most expensive. I need something Quick and Cheap... sons football game was in 3 days.I purchased it online thinking the price was right and shipping in 1 day was good also. No problems with Sears and the delivery date. I got the camera and it has some nice features but... When I took pictures of my sons football game..... Garbage!! Blurry even though they where standing still, I even put it on fast motiondurring the game and out of 30 pictures 5 came out. I thought I need to play around with it more but, I ve now had it for 2 months and no matter what I do it does not have crisp, clean pictures... I guess you get what you pay for Cheap and Quick!

I own this camera and love it! It's easy to use but has many functions on it so you can get some amazing photos. This is 1 of Canon's smaller DSLR cameras. It's lightweight but has a sturdy build. It's not some cheap little camera. The 10.1 megapixels will help if you need to blow the photos up to larger sizes. You can mount any of Canon's lenses on this camera. I just purchased Canon's 70-200 2.8 IS lens and it works great on this camera. This camera isnt a full frame camera and has a crop factor of 1.6. Meaning the sensor in it is smaller then that of a 35mm camera so therefore you'll have to multiply your lenses by 1.6 to get their actual range on this body. For example the Canon 70mm-200mm lens is actually going to range around 112mm-320mm. So you'll actually be able to get closer then what the lens says. You'll be able to shoot at 3 frames per second in rapid burst on this camera which is good for sporting events. 1 of the only drawbacks is that this camera gets...

I highly recommend the Kodak EasyShare C533 Digital Camera. I never leave home without it. My camera stays in my purse with me wherever I go! I have no complaints with this camera. I have had this camera for over three years, and it is still working like a champ! It comes with a chord, so you can upload to your desktop or you can take the camera card right out for a quick laptop upload. I had to buy my own camera case, but I just bought a cheap $10.00 one with a strap. This camera has a video recorder feature. It is NOT waterproof. If you are taking alot of pictures in dark areas, this may not be the camera for you, though. Takes great pictures up close and in sunlight! Good luck and happy picture-taking!

I purchased the Olympus E Volt E 510 Digital SLR camera for my niece's Christening. My family decided they wanted professional quality photographs and my old point and shoot just wasn't going to cut it. I have to say that I am quite pleased with the results thus far. I have clear crisp images and the image stabilization built into the body of the camera helps considerably. I still would recommend a tripod for any shots that must be absolutely perfect. The camera offers point and shoot ease with many pre-sets or if you can use the manual setting choose to select the various settings yourself. Another added feature on this camera is the live view. It offers a decent size screen to set up your shots without having to peer into the viewfinder. This is great for setting up group shots. I would recommend taking a photography class so you can take advantage of everything this camera can do for you.

Point, hold and click for the magic. Simple, lightweight, rechargeable lithium battery and a 10X optical zoom. Add in the digital zoom and Panasonic Lumix TZ4 is a pocketsize telescope. Priced accordingly at around $200 last Xmas, these little gems are being sold off at less than $100 if you're lucky to find one. Comes complete with software and usb cables. Takes standard SD cards and has built-in memory for a dozen shots or so. Lots of bells and whistles for onboard editing, but basic enough for anyone to use. The definitive driver in your vacation bag.

I had a very nice Kodak that was stolen from me at a hockey game and I did not have to money to properly replace it. I purchased this camera in black and have to say I am very surprised.

The picture quality is excellent and the camera is fairly easy to use. it has most of the advance features you would expect and has been an overall joy.

My only caution is that it does use AA Batteries. It is pretty good about power consumption but they still are an added cost. Overall though still a great buy.

Canon has always been innovative, and the SX10IS is not let-down. The ability to shoot in multiple frames per second is a nice feature. The ability to use an external flash is great for those who want to get in more light. Also, the menus and button are fully customizable. You will never get tired of this camera; it can do so many things with all its functions, features, setting and accessories available.

New to manual photography, this camera was recommended by my instructor for beginning students.

One of the features that appealed to me was the wide array of advanced Canon lenses on the market. Although this is definitely an entry level model, it can be easily upgraded as your skills improve. The ability to quickly manipulate shutter speed, ISO, and white balance and reasonable price point are just a few of the features that rank this model ahead of competitors.

After dealing with an old digital camera for the past four years, I decided to upgrade before I went abroad. Here's what I was looking for in a new digital camera:

    * Multiple features (nighttime, color filter, movement, auto, etc.)
    * Fast (I hate waiting for my camera to load before I can take more pictures!)
    * Great resolution
    * Easy to handle
    * SMALL!

I shopped around and settled on this Canon PowerShot and I love it! I always recommend the PowerShot to my friends who are shopping for digital cameras. It's simply one of the best purchases I've ever made (and it wasn't even that expensive!).

This is what I love about the PowerShot:

It takes pictures really fast. No waiting around for your camera to load.
It's tiny! I can slip it in my pocket, purse, or just let it hang from my wrist.
It takes awesome pictures. There are tons of different settings to match any environment and pictures always turn out crips and clear.
I love the fun settings! You can filter out colors...

I just bought the Samsung L100 Digital Camera from Sears and love it! It was extremely affordable and I was able to get it in my favorite color - red! It fits perfectly in my purse so I am prepared to capture any moment. With 8.2 MP the quality of the pictures has been great! I actually carry the small USB cord in my purse to quickly download to any pc and share my pics with friends! This camera comes with a chargeable battery which is awesome!(No more running out for batteries for the camera on the way to an event) ...

I have always used the simple point and shoot cameras but wanted to take the next step in photography. A couple of close freinds have the Canon S5 IS and they love it...but then they are much more advacned in photography than I am...plus I did not want to spend $300+ on a camera...not yet. So I read a lot of reviews and decided to buy the Canon SX110 IS. It has may be around 80-90% of the features that you will find in the higer end models of Canon like S5, S10 but at a much lower price...i got mine for $190.
The camera has a 10X optical zoom and when couple with the digital zoom, it can give more than 40x zooming power. The IS (image stabilization) is very effective especially when capturing moving objects. The digital screen is large and the quality of shots is amazing .. thanks to the 9.0 mega pixel feature. I like the continuous shooting mode as well since the lag is not too much..of course not as good as a SLR. The built-in shooting modes are plenty with the manual option as well (which......

I've had this camera for several months and have been thrilled with the performance. The settings are extremely intuitive and it is pretty fast from power on to taking a picture. I have been using it to take pictures of my kids and it's pretty good at cathing them while in motion. I'm sure an SLR is better but I have been happy with it's performance. I love my camera! I feel like an real professional and would love to have an job doing it. When I bought my camera it came with an extra lens and I love how easy it is to be able to exchange/change between the lens. It doesn't really take long for the camera to charge. Plus, it is not heavy to carry around your neck. I like how you can change the color of the pictures built in. The dials are easy to see what style pic you want to take and it gives you all the details of the photos right on the picture that you are taking. for an example, it has the color levels, what frame it is etc... Plus, the website have contest for you to enter and upload your pictures to. You can also take online classes that they offer for free and learn how to use the camera and digital enhancing. I would recommend this camera to everyone. I can't wait to get my next lens....

This has 7.1 MP and is one of the best entry level point and shoots your money can buy. It uses AA batteries and a SD memory card. Because of the battery chamber, you have a nice little grip handle which a lot of cameras don't have, making it easy to put fingers in front of the flash or lens. It also has IS (image stabilization) which really adds to the quality of your shots and allows for less rejected pics. I noticed it can be a little slow on flash recylcing but it's not a huge inconvenience as long as you are not in a hurry to get that next special shot. The colors are more accurate to natural colors rather than overcompensating which makes it nice. IF you want richer color or contrast, you can always use PSP or Corel, both of which I use depending on my preferences for the project at hand. It does better than a lot of models out there on the 1600 ISO which is one of the reasons I bought this model. I would suggest a 1 or 2 GB SD card if you want to use the movie mode...

My fiance bought me my Norcent digital camera for my 30th birthday last month and it's the greatest give (aside from my children) I've ever received. I can do so many things with pictures with my camera, black and white, color tinted, with out having to spend time sitting at my computer. It's all right there in the camera. The pictures are clear and it's so easy to use. Even my 4 year old can take pictures and not get confused. It was the perfect gift for the birthday I've been dreading. It has a rechargable lithium battery so my batteries aren't dead when I want to get the perfect picture, like yesterday when my daughter decided to try to climb the Christmas tree.

I take THOUSANDS of pictures each year. This camera was a splurge for me having never owned a full-frame camera. I liked that the Sony H9 was easy to use, took regular (rechargeable) AA batteries, stored lots of pictures on the memory card, stored a reasonable amount on the camera itself (if you forgot the memory card) and took nice pictures. I never missed a moment with this camera. In fact, I would have recommended it to anyone had I not had to deal with Sony Customer service.

The flash bulb broke after having owned this camera for 3 years. Because I loved the camera so much, I contacted Sony repairs. ANY repair for this camera costs almost $200 as part of their flat-rate repair pricing. You cannot repair/replace any component for less than that. So a $20 (or less) flash bulb cost more than buying a new camera. So after having this camera for 3 years, I had to purchase a new camera or double the price of this camera to have it repaired.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4 8 megapixel (and DMC-TZ5 9 megapixel) has some of the best features on the market for a consumer base camera. One of the best feature is the 10x optical zoom! Forget Digital zoom, the most useless feature on any camera (unless your trying to capture grainy images of Big Foot or UFO's). While most point and shoot come with a 3x to 5x optical zoom . The DMC-TZ Series sports a 10x optical zoom, which will allow you to focus in and take crisp image with an amazing amount of details, especially when combine with the (Tele) Macro Settings. Another great thing is the rechargeable battery kiy which comes with a very nifty portable charging dock, making powering easy if your on the go. On a single day of shooting, I get ruffly about 120 to 130 shoots in, depending on environmental conditions (read the manual for more details). So, pick up a spare battery for long shoots.
